Better Than a Cup of Coffee
Usually, I, like most of us, don’t like dealing with governmental bureaucracy, but today was an exception.?Color me so surprised.?I had to get a duplicate statement for my taxes. As, usual, I waited on the phone for about 25 minutes before I was connected with someone. But, thanks to cell phones I could walk around and do what I needed to do while I waited which made it pretty easy.
??Finally, I got Jeffrey on the line.?He asked the info he needed from me to begin the process, but we also began to chat. He was one of the warmest, kindest and insightful people I have ever met. We talked about birthdays, since I recently had one, and he told me he had a best friend born on the same day as I was and that they had been close friends for thirty years. No arguments, judgements or anger. The reason for that, he said, was, although, they had different opinions about several issues, they respected one anothers right to hold their particular belief so there was really no reason to fight or hold a grudge. His friend’s family also treated him as their family so there was a very strong bond.
?During that all too brief conversation, I met a man who was respectful of others and open to share his experiences of the best parts of his life with me. I thanked him for expediting what I needed and added, it was too bad he didn’t live near me since I felt we could have been good friends based on our conversation. He agreed and then added, “Some things are better than having a cup of coffee.” And, he was right. It takes so little to brighten a day and it doesn’t even need to be in person. This interaction will stay with me for a long time as an example that the world is full of wonderful people. Thank you, Jeffrey.
