Better sex life: 10 Reasons Being Sober Makes Your Life Better

What Happens When You Take A Break From The Booze?

Is it good to be sober?

The answer to that question seems easy enough to someone not battling addiction. For those who face this daily challenge, it seems “easier” to just drown away the world’s troubles. Every person struggling with alcohol or drug addiction needs a go-to list. This list outlines why it is so important and valuable to get and stay sober. Only you can create that list – it defines what’s so valuable to you that it is worth the hard work and effort to put down the drink and to walk away from the drugs.

What’s on Your List of Reasons?

Write down a list of your reasons to get sober. This information can ultimately give you the help you need in your most vulnerable state. Ask yourself what matters to you most. Define what it means to you to be sober – does it mean a job, family, and friends? Does it mean that you are working towards and achieving goals? No matter what your thoughts are right now about getting and staying sober, take a moment to recognize the good things about it. If you need a bit of help, consider these reasons.

1. Your memory improves.

Have you ever woken up unable to remember what happened the night before? It’s a bit unsettling. Even if you don’t tend to black out under the influence, alcohol and drugs can make your memory foggy and unreliable. When you’re sober, you’ll feel sharper and more alert, and you’ll remember things better.

2. It’s Less Expensive

There’s an incredible financial toll of using drugs and alcohol. The cost of recovery can be high, but it is less expensive than keeping up a daily habit of alcohol and drugs. Those funds can go towards buying healthy food, providing shelter for you and your family, and meeting other obligations. How much do you spend on drugs and alcohol? What could those funds go towards otherwise?

3. You Enjoy Little Things Again

A person addicted to drugs and alcohol has only one thing on his or her mind. That’s because the chemicals within these substances change the brain’s structure, forcing it to focus on getting more drugs or alcohol. All you can think about is that addiction. When you break free from this, you suddenly can experience life again. This includes everything from the way the sun feels on your skin to the sound of your child laughing. What little things are you missing throughout the day?

4. You sleep better.

It’s hard to overstate the importance of good sleep. When you are sleep-deprived, you feel cranky, foggy, and unhealthy. Alcohol and drugs aren’t conducive to good sleep – they can keep you up late at night, make it hard to fall asleep when you want to, or make you sleepy during the daytime. When you’re sober, you’re able to stick to a healthy sleep schedule and wake up feeling refreshed every day.

5. Your relationships get stronger.

When you’re sober, you have more time and mental energy to spend on the people who matter most to you. Without the distraction of wondering when you can go get drunk or high, you’ll be able to stay physically and emotionally present with others. You’ll probably find that the important relationships in your life mean more to you than drugs or alcohol ever did.

6. You have more energy.

Between messing up your sleep and taking a toll on your body, alcohol and drugs can make you feel pretty bad if you use them regularly. Cutting out these substances can make you instantly feel years younger. You won’t have to nurse any more hangovers or take afternoon naps to get through the day.

7. Develop greater sense of self-worth

Once you realize you can give up alcohol and that you have got the will-power to do so, you will develop a new-found self-confidence. Being able to control your body rather than letting the alcohol control you is a very powerful feeling and will nourish you.

8. Your skin will clear up

On to reason number nine on why you should give up alcohol. Alcohol dehydrates you which means your body (including your skin) is deprived of certain nutrients and vitamins which are usually delivered by being hydrated. Not only that alcohol affects your hormones, and one theory, suggests that acne is caused by excessive alcohol intake. By simply giving up the booze you will begin to see positive changes in your skin and face.

9. Better sex life

With rejuvenated energy, feeling and looking younger than ever before is only going to have a positive impact on your sex life. This will not only make you physically fitter (for obvious reasons) but allows you to maintain a physical relationship with your partner which we all know is very important for a deep relationship.

10. You will be happier than you have been in years

The last of our reasons to stop drinking is al about longevity I don’t think it’s difficult to see how the accumulation of all the benefits mentioned in the previous 16 points is going to have a positive impact on your life. A healthy body is a happy body, especially when friends and family are supportive of your change.
