With advancement in technology and our dependencies on it as a consumer is growing day by day. With recent unfortunate events like Cambridge Analytica breach on worldwide front and now the local Cobrapost sting surfacing leave us in a more vulnerable position. This forced me to make a list of all the avenues where we can be less secure, so that we can take steps to combat it.
And as a great man said,
Prevention is better than cure
Let's start rolling with a list of avenues and what all information of your can be sacrificed, so that you can be alert and keep a check on it on regular basis:
- Passwords - Web browser autofill, stored in your systems
- Deleted content - all files (including the ones deleted from the trash) can be recovered until and unless the device is formated
- Bank account information - Estatements on your phone and system
- Contacts - List kept by your phone Operating system, various applications like facebook, amazon, back up in cloud (if you have)
- Current location - By phone or gps device like smart watch or dongle, phone applications like Snapchat and Zomato
- Recently visited online content - Web browser's cache, browser's history, cookies
- Name & address - Web Browser autofill, phone contacts, Address book, Contact manager (in local storage as well as cloud)
- Text messages - Message log on phone
- Credit card numbers - Web browser autofill, Estatements around credit card, payment apps like Paytm and flipkart
Let's be cautious at our front and we will be safer in coming times.
