Better Practice Principles for Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
Communications INC
We harness the power of communications and campaigning to protect the planet.
This year the Advancing Strategic Ocean Communication project launched its ocean communication ‘Better Practice Principles’. This month we’re taking a closer look at the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) principles for ocean communication.?
JEDI is not just a checklist or a set of tasks to complete - it’s a mindset. It calls for thoughtful, context-specific consideration and an enduring commitment to amplifying the voices of underrepresented and marginalised communities. By embedding JEDI principles into ocean communication strategies, we aim to create more equitable, inclusive, and impactful narratives. With this approach, we can foster advocacy efforts that truly reflect the global community and scale up the impact of ocean communication.
These principles were developed by the project’s JEDI Advisory Board and serve as a foundation for communicators to integrate JEDI into their work, creating campaigns that resonate across diverse audiences. You can find the full principles here.
For our first event of 2025, we’ll be talking about how to apply these principles in practice. Register for the conversation here. To stay informed about the wider communications project sign up for the mailing list here.
Let’s work together to ensure ocean communication is accessible and inclusive for all.
