Better PowerPoint: Transform your charts so they support your message with little explanation.
Often times when I see people presenting charts they show the slide and immediately say "as you can see, sales are..." and they go on and on while I'm still trying to figure out what the various colors mean and trying to match them with the legend at the bottom. While the presenter has probably seen such charts multiple times, the audience hasn't.
Don't just use the default settings in PowerPoint to create charts!
Within the first two minutes of this video I show you a better way to create line charts to ensure the key point you are trying to make comes across easily. Then I tell you what exactly is it that I changed to make it look better. And if you are interested in learning how to actually do it, you can watch the rest of the video where I take you step-by-step from start to finish.

7 年Guillermo, great article for some technical tips on improving the graphs. What I find especially important is the point you bring up at 1:37 regarding the title of the chart. In my work I find slides most effective when the title tells the audience what they are seeing, i.e. summaries the slide, most often in 1-2 lines. It is then useful to have a few bullets that highlight the key takeaways that you want the audience to infer from the data. In my experience, the graph by itself may not tell the whole story.
Amazing tips GG - and so great of you to share widely with the LI universe!

8 年Wow--GG does it again! When you showed the first default slide, I thought, "what's so bad about that?" But after watching your presentation and seeing the dramatically improved version...I couldn't stand the sight of the default slide any more ;-)
