Over the past several years numerous surveys suggest people have an odd relationship with time.
For many people, time seems to be flying by.? For others, it’s passing slowly.
A UK study revealed 80% of all participants felt time had changed during COVID.
More socially stimulated people believed time was passing quickly.? People that experienced stress, depression and decreased life satisfaction felt time stood still.
Scientists believe the advent of COVID quickly tossed our lives into disarray, which left people feeling lost and confused.
Forcing people to “stay home”, wear masks and isolate had enormous consequences on our mental health.
Many people enjoy the transition between a busy work week and a more relaxing weekend. Those boundaries became ambiguous.
In addition, novel experiences make life enjoyable.? Eating out with friends, vacations and social activity had become obsolete during the Pandemic.? In the process, time moved extra slowly.
What's the primary lesson from this period in history. Loss of routine creates chaos.
When we lose structure our brain reacts strangely.
For many people, we get depressed, suffer anxiety and wrestle with insomnia.
What we can learn from this historic moment. We need to learn to adapt to new realities and create structure that restores and reinforces routine.
“The way we spend our time defines who we are.”
Here are 6 things we can do to regain a better relationship with time: ?
Routine
One of the biggest problems preventing success is lack of routine.? When people don’t feel the need to jump out of bed and start their day we loose motivation.? Ironically, people had more time to dedicate to a morning routine since they weren't stuck in rush hour.? Many squandered the chance to build extraordinary routines. Morning routines are a great way to improve productivity, life satisfaction, and increase energy.

Nature
Something I advocate all the time at Anatomy of Success is embracing nature.? Get outside.? Walk and meditate.? Fresh air and moving our bodies are essential, especially during these difficult times.? Being outside gives us a break from technology and helps restore mental and physical wellbeing.??
Connected
One of the sad consequences of social distancing was separating people from their social life. We need to make a concerted effort to connect with friends and family.? Schedule time with love ones and interact often we our core friends.? Feeling disconnected makes time go slow.
“The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.”
Rest
Many people slept in and took advantage of the extra time they had to get more sleep. We can’t let the temptation to sleep more than required interfere with productive routines that invigorate our mornings with structure and life satisfaction.? ??
Meaning
Without meaning and a sense of purpose time moves slowly.? With the added time many of us have by working from home it’s a perfect opportunity to cultivate more purpose in our life.? Discovering meaning is a fruitful endeavor that pays big dividends.? It creates a sense of urgency that makes time flow and life much more gratifying.
Mindful
A great practice to start improving our relationship with time is mindfulness.? Being mindful improves self-awareness and elevates our mood.? Focusing on better mental and physical health has enormous benefits and it helps us apprehend the perception of time moving slowly.? Walks.? Social gatherings, even if their viral, have tremendous benefits.
“Make time for success every day, no matter what.”
Sum it up.
