Better Late Then Never

My mother instilled a sense of punctuality into me by saying things like, "if you're not early, you're late."
So my intention is to be early or on time, and I probably am over 95% of the time.
Sometimes I am late, since I am also human.
When I am late, instead of beating myself up, I remind myself "better late than never," and "I still showed up, and showing up is 80% of life." (nod to Woody Allen for the 80% paraphrase)
And the nerd in me was curious about this saying.?
Did you know it first appeared in 1386 in The Canterbury Tales, by Geoffrey Chaucer: “For better than never is late; never to succeed would be too long a period.”
Probably a pretty good saying if it has sustained in the English language for almost 650 years, right?
