Better

Based on a strong conviction that even in difficult circumstances there is a deliberate and positive result, the Christian bible-based "all things work together for good" holds that every event—positive or negative—serves a part in a greater, good design. Gaining an awareness of this idea calls for a thorough investigation of the interaction among resilience, viewpoints, and experiences.

First of all, many times, the difficulties of life provide insightful teachings. Difficulties force people to become resilient, grow, and change. Though at the time unpleasant, these events develop character and strength, arming individuals with the skills required to manage next challenges. In retrospect, the wisdom acquired throughout adversity usually shows itself as a major advantage.

Second, perspective is strongly related to the idea that everything works together for good. An optimistic view helps people to identify bright spots amid difficult circumstances. One can develop a perspective that sees opportunity in every challenge by concentrating on possible good results instead of immediate problems. This change of viewpoint makes negative events steppingstones toward development and fulfillment.

Moreover, this view depends much on the connectivity of events. Events in life are rarely solitary; they are rather part of a complex network of causes and consequences. With what seems to be a tragedy might start a domino effect producing unanticipated benefits. Losing a job, for example, might inspire one to find a more interesting professional route. The road towards a better future is naturally difficult at first. For me, it was the death of my Father at eleven, my mother sending me Boy Scouts, and my earning the Eagle Scout rank at fifteen years old.

Since my father was a soldier and worked, I received social security and V.A. benefits until the age of 24. Growing up on welfare, poverty, and my single mother raising three children, the Illinois State Scholarship Commission paid my college tuition. Enough Social Security and VA payments allowed me to pay for and save my room and board each semester at Illinois State University. For years I worked three college jobs: food service, softball umpire, and Capen Cinema manager.

The conviction that all things work together for good is essentially evidence of the human spirit's capacity to discover meaning and direction in every experience. It promotes resilience, a good attitude, and recognizes how complexly life's events interact. Accepting this viewpoint helps people to negotiate the uncertainties of life with hope and confidence, knowing that even the most difficult situation will help them to reach their ultimate good.

Good or bad? Should my father have not passed away, where would I be right now? The past is not something I can alter. I can make today my finest day ever. As for tomorrow?

Better.
