A Better Energy-Booster than Coffee?

A Better Energy-Booster than Coffee?

If you’re a fan of the delicious, brown caffeinated coffee bean brew that keeps the wheels of industry turning, you’ll know how easy it is to become dependent on this incredibly popular stimulant. We consume truly vast amounts of coffee every day. But is there a better way to keep ourselves awake and sharpen our senses? One of the most overlooked methods is so simple yet so effective that it’s surprising we don’t use it more often. It’s free. You don’t need a prescription. You can make full use of it whenever you wish. And it’s called breathing.

Throughout human history, breathing has been studied as a way to enhance health, to influence every part of the body and take control of our thoughts and feelings. We can breathe more deeply to increase the flow of oxygen to the brain. We can slow down our breathing to reduce stress and sharpen our cognitive function. We can use our breathing to wake up or to slow down and relax.

The irony is that we live in an age of extraordinary scientific and medical developments, yet no one suggests using the power of breathing as an effective means to improve our health and wellbeing. Despite the fascinating research that has clearly demonstrated improvements in insomnia, stress, depression, digestive issues and immune response problems, we are conditioned to rely on pharmaceuticals rather than using the power of our breath. This is not to disparage the miracle of modern medicine. It’s rather an invitation to consider the fact that breathing techniques have been practised, studied and developed for thousands of years. That’s a serious amount of field testing. The results have been noted, analysed and refined.

Developing deeper, stronger and more measured breathing produces a wealth of health benefits. Creating a stronger flow of oxygen to our brains can revive us without relying on caffeine. The only side effects are that we feel better throughout our entire body. If you remember to take two or three deeper breaths at least once every hour, you’ll feel calmer, more centred, more in control, more energised and more alive. Make it part of your daily routine and notice how much better you feel.
