Better Brain Health
In 2019, Lyme disease devastated me. I spent nearly six months barely able to function. It wasn’t just physical; my brain manifested symptoms that would typically be labeled as “mental health” issues.
That experience forced me to rethink everything I thought I knew about health. It took a significant investment of time, money, and learning to biohack my way back—physically first, and then mentally. What I discovered was profound: 98% of the cognitive and emotional struggles I faced were within my control to change.
In the “mental health” space, we have to broaden our perspective. The default to psychological or psychiatric treatments completely miss the solutions that are rooted in physiology and biology. Optimizing brain function isn’t just about mindset—it’s about metabolic health, inflammation, gut health, embodiment and more. This is something Cristina Poindexter and I will be emphasizing over and over through Founder Mental Health Pledge
The same is true more broadly with brain health and longevity which has hit equally close to home recently. Several people I love are now facing cognitive decline, including cases of early-onset dementia.
This only deepens my commitment to sharing things that actually help—as opposed to what's traditionally prescribed. We also will be working to ensure more funding goes into this category via Vitality Labs.
Imagine the Trillions the world can reallocate from sickcare systems into human flourishing if we can collectively transform the way we approach our lives.
To quote a great song: "It has to start someplace. It has to start sometime. What better place than here? What better time than now?"

3 周Jason Cavnar, thought provoking indeed. If our mental health and/or our brains can be damaged, why can't they be similarly proactively improved? Enjoyed your article. And, while I don't want TLDR moments, your article whetted my appetite, yet I was hoping for a next level or two (2)...To be continued, I guess. #GrowthMinset #Leadership
