A better answer to an earlier question

A better answer to an earlier question

Last month, I joined the Rutgers Business School Executive Education program for a conversation on unlocking leadership. The central theme of the discussion was that before leading others, we must lead ourselves, and the key to leading ourselves is the difficult but necessary establishment of productive daily routines.

?During my conversation with the Rutgers team, someone asked about culture and how you know if you’re in the right place. An excellent place to start in answering that question is by examining where you are.

In Building Atomic Habits, James Clear writes:

“One of the most effective things you can do to build better habits is to join a culture where your desired behavior is the normal behavior…Your culture sets your expectation for what is ‘normal.’ Surround yourself with people who have the habits you want to have yourself. You’ll rise together."

This one small paragraph is a powerful key to being successful. Finding the right team that does the right things helps keep us accountable and provides role models for the leaders we want to become. Look left, look right. Do your teammates make you better, and do you do the same for them? Sign me up for that team.
