Better Air Quality

After attending the Clean Air Asia "Better Air Quality" 2023 event at ADB in Manila, I thought I should enlighten more people on the main subject at that event -- SLCPs and the environmental damage they bring about.

Definition -- SLCP:

Short Lived Climate Pollution -- such as PM2.5/10, methane, etc. that is short lived in our atmosphere but is renewed every second of every day

What Organizations say about SLCPs:

WHO: "Black carbon, produced by inefficient combustion in sources such as cook-stoves and diesel engines, is the second greatest contributor to global warming after CO2."

Center for Climate and Energy Solutions: "SLCPs are the second largest contributor to human-caused climate warming after carbon dioxide, contributing up to 45 percent of global warming to date..."

Climate & Clean Air Coalition: "...short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) – are responsible for nearly half of warming today. They are tens to thousands of times more powerful than carbon dioxide (CO2) at warming the planet."

GRID-Arendal: "SLCPs play a major role in Arctic climate change."

WHO: "...(SLCPs) cause more than 45% of the net global warming since pre-industrial times & emissions continue to increase across sectors..."

Institute for Governance & Sustainable Development: "SLCPs account for 40-45% of global warming, making fast mitigation of these climate forcers, along with CO2 mitigation, essential to combating climate change."

And none of this even starts to cover the 7 million people who die early EVERY YEAR due to SLCPs (PM2.5 in particular) according to the WHO...

Yet...

With all of this publicly available data on the damage caused by SLCPs, very little attention has been paid to putting a stop to these emissions other than knee-jerk ban-the-{insert sector here} actions which can:

  • take years before measurable action occurs
  • have devastating economic effects

How to Reduce SLCPs _ N-O-W??

Greatly reduce the pollution of existing 'fossil fuel' vehicles in an INEXPENSIVE and FAST manner so that funding is left over for (hopefully) more effective technologies.

(I know for a fact that this is possible because we produce one of the government-verified ways of reducing diesel emission SLCPs by 75% and I honestly believe we cannot be the only ones capable of doing so.)

Whether our method is used or another, what is needed is to create a positive effect right now which will give Earth a chance while we wait for policies and new technologies to play catch up with reality.

Don't Wait -- Mitigate!
