West Midlands becomes first English region to speed-up bowel cancer screening using technology as part of pioneering Levelling Up Smart City Region programme
The West Midlands has become the first English region to screen people for bowel cancer in their local pharmacy, at home or at other local settings, using new colon capsule endoscopy services (CCE) – so-called ‘pill cam’.
Screening people in their own community rather than in hospital will help to significantly cut waiting times and speed up lifesaving diagnosis. It is expected that 2,000 people will use the new technology across the West Midlands in its first year with waiting times cut from 30 weeks to just two.
Birmingham's CyberQ Group set for further growth with £1M of funding
Birmingham-headquartered CyberQ Group has secured £1 million from the Midlands Engine Investment Fund (MEIF), allowing it to expand and advance to meet global demand.
The company, which also has operations in the Philippines and the US, brings together expert capabilities and technical knowledge to deliver bespoke cyber solutions for companies.
AI-powered property portal Jitty launches in Bristol
Jitty, a platform which helps homebuyers search for and filter properties across a wide range of metrics, has arrived in Bristol and the surrounding areas.
The service uses large language models (LLMs) to collect floorplans, photos and descriptions of homes, organising the information into an easy-to-use search engine.
Users can filter by size of home, number of bathrooms, on/off-road parking, EPA rating and price per square foot, among many others. There’s even a filter for houseboats.

£26 million funding for new Herefordshire solar farm
Virgin Money is providing £26 million of long-term funding for the development, construction and operation of a major new 45MW solar park in Herefordshire.?
The 77,000-panel array is on track for completion by Exeter-based engineering and construction contractors, Ethical Power in the second quarter of the year. It has been designed and developed in consultation with Herefordshire County Council and will include?40 hectares of native wildflower grassland to mitigate the?impact to the local community and environment.
