Beta Alpha Psi Gives Back
Beta Alpha Psi - Delta Pi Chapter
International Accounting Honor Society at Hofstra University
After a hectic two years of dealing with the pandemic and trying to financially recover from it, Hurricane Ida hit late August into early September of 2021. September 1, 2021, after receiving flash flood warnings, my parents and I exchanged text messages with each other to make sure that we had enough supplies just in case the power went out. We went to sleep that night under the impression it was just going to be a heavy rainstorm that would be gone in the morning, however that was the furthest thing from reality. Waking up the next morning, I sighed in relief to see that the floor of my off-campus house wasn’t covered in water, however that sense of relief was short-lived as I checked my messages. My messages were flooded with pictures from friends and families in Queens of their cars being completely submerged in water on the side of the road or their driveways, and their basement is filled with water from floor to ceiling. My childhood home is located in Queens, NY and upon moving out in 2015, my parents converted the home into a multifamily rental property. The first floor of the property had been completely submerged in water and thankfully the tenants were able to evacuate safely, however, the property was completely ruined. My charity experience has been devoting any free time I have to help restore the property. My brother and I have been at the house every Sunday since the flood, slowly helping my dad restore the house.
