BestSew: The story so far
She buzzed us on WhatsApp, she had heard about us from a friend and was curious and surprised that there was such a thing as a white label mass production facility. Her fashion business had all but stalled as a result of the challenges of running her own internal tailors, cost of fuel and managing everything else in her life. She had lost a lot of money and disappointed a number of the clients she had gotten. She was at her wits end and had depleted her funds but the love of fashion was still in her heart.
30 minutes after chatting with her and answering her questions we appointed a Business manager to her account and agreed to make a set of samples, she was really worried about quality. 3 days later her samples were ready, she was impressed but had some feedback, 2 days later she was shown the reworked samples. She heaved a sigh of relief and placed her order. Now she is a frequent client and is growing from her first 20 orders. She was amazed at the complementary warehousing, fabric purchase and photography services in addition to making the outfits. Its still early days for her but her client list is growing and production is no longer the challenge that it used to be.
We started this business with a simple idea, make life easier for fashion designers who have either gone out of business due to bad service quality of local tailors or the Naira devaluation that has made foreign sourcing a very expensive and sometimes inaccessible option. Our first few days were tough as our first set of clients requested very low pricing that made profitability look like a pipe dream. Plus the long hours and multiple brief formats created their own complications.
6 months may seem like a short time but we have learnt a lot and have gotten better at delivering quality. In this period:
- We have implemented a clear briefing system between our two parts of the business. Business development and production. This ensures that communication is clear and we deliver exactly to our clients needs and expectation.
- Gotten better at hiring professional tailors, implemented a clear screening process. We have also staffed up with illustrators, programmers, engineers, fashion designers and business managers.
- Set up a better managed warehousing system and moving to an automated reporting system so our clients can view their orders and inventory position in real time on request.
- Launched ancillary services such as Photography, editing, warehousing and
- Acquired a second power station so we can operate 24 hours. This is critical as we plan to launch a 48 hours delivery service in the coming months
- Expanded facility so that all tailors are now 100% accommodated in 1 of our 4 building
We look forward to the next 6 months and the challenges that it will bring. What is amazing is that we are providing a real service and enabling designers focus on their designs while we focus on quality production. Its always great to see our customers grow and order more.
