Is This The Best You Can Offer?
How many times have we started the day full of Motivation, Morale, and Magic?
- This will be the day where things finally align.
- This is the day where I will finally move up.
- This is the day where someone will finally notice.
- This is the day where I begin to turn the corner.
- This is the day where my momentum will lead to a level of greatness not seen to this point.
What Happened?
Armed with this mind set, we eagerly prepare for what will be a game changer kind 0f day. There is pep, there is a sense of clarity, a new resolve to finally push past the hump of average into a position of awesome. Now that we make our way to actually making something happen (our effort), we lose the earlier motivation we experienced earlier in the day. Things don't turn out the way we envisioned just a few hours before. Consequently, we fall short of the best that may be within us on this particular day. What happened to our initial thoughts of greatness to disheartening sense of how it always seem to be? The dis-connect between what we thought would happen and what actually happened are the actions in between. Did our actions align to our thoughts? The answer most likely is No. Further reflection might lead to asking yourself one important question.
Did You Give Your Best?
Unfortunately, we continue to run the risk of wanting the reward without accepting the reality that our best efforts are required. Receiving the Best is all about Giving the Best in all that we do. How many times do we start out with Hopefulness only to succumb to Helplessness? We start out one way while ending up far removed from the desired result. The following could explain part of the dis-connect.
- There is not a Plan: We begin with the prospects of accomplishing something new while continuing to do the same thing we have always done. (Think insanity)
- No Plan for Adversity: It is inevitable that an obstacle will arise. We will receive push back and resistance either by circumstance or those around us. We must have a plan to proactively handle the unexpected moments and mayhem that will arise. Our preparation and anticipation to handle is paramount for successfully pressing forward versus giving up.
- The Desire is Lukewarm: If you want it, you have to really want it. The desire must be intense enough to follow thru with the necessary action to bring the desire alive
- Finish What is Started: You cannot realistically expect to be the best if you quit prior to the finish line. It is easy to quit because the comfort level just became comfortable again. There must be a dedication towards crossing the finish line of each challenge we confront. Many times one is unable to see the finish line because they are standing on top of it.
- Understanding the Definition of Giving Our Best: Recognizing that your best must come from within based on your set of Values and Character Traits.
- When No One is Watching: Giving our all in spite of no visible eyes around. This is where it gets real. It is easy to perform around others especially if their influence and impact help us to move ahead. What about those times where you are all alone? This is the time to kick it into higher gear. However Julia Roberts said it best in Oceans 11. "Someone is always watching"
Giving your best require just that; Your Best! Despite the situations around you, the challenge is to provide an effort indicative of your best. You have to define what your best is and how it measures up. Our mantra is to continue the pursuit of greatness by expecting the best from ourselves each and every time. Tall order, yet the will to win is measured by the steps and moves we make on a daily basis to achieve the desired results. Do yourself a favor and give your best! This is one of the greatest compliments you can present to yourself.
