"Be the best you can be everyday"
In the summer of 2019 I started working for the Auburn University football team as an equipment manager. The amount of work is tremendous but I can truthfully say it is one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life. It's got to the point where its making me really confused with what I want to do with my future because I don't want to leave this job.
The amount of life skills I've acquired from the job are gonna be tremendous help with my career in my future. Going into the interview it was really eye opening how much time I was going to invest in this program. I work six days a week and set up the field for every practice and home and away games. I also help with whatever the wide receivers need as well as my coach, Kodi Burns. I also clean and decal the players helmets after every game and every other practice as well as all 120 players laundry twice a day. Some weeks for away games i'll travel around the country to wherever the team plays. I do all this basically for free with very little pay. I know it sounds like a lot but I wouldn't change for any other job right now.
Instead of thinking about the money aspect of the job I look at how much my work ethic is improving. This is such an important tool in life so I know this job will prepare me for many jobs. My bosses and coaches also expect us to perform our job at the highest standard so I truly feel like this job is bringing a different person out of me. I came into this job with only having work experience in construction so you can only imagine the people skills I learned from this job. Before this job I was embarrassed with how I would talk with adults, i would stutter and act shy and wouldn't look someone in the eye. This job made me a better person in so many aspects and things I know will help me tremendously in my career. Also, when your boss is Gus Malzahn there's very little wiggle room for mistakes so i'm sure that has a big deal to do with my success in this job.
