I downloaded and listened to an audio-book by Jim Rohn called “How to have Your Best Year Ever”. It was effectively a presentation he had given back in the 1990's, but interestingly, the principles he covered were completely relevant for 2018.
The key takeaway for me was about backing myself to fulfil my purpose through the pursuit of excellence: Set specific goals and take disciplined action.
In the past I have applied the principles of “Best Year Yet”: Ensure the learnings from last year guide the planning for next year, then set specific goals and take disciplined action.
There is a well-known saying by Graeme Edwards: “It’s not the plan that is important, it’s the planning.”
My point is that by taking some time at the beginning and end of each calendar year, to consider the recent past as well as the approaching future, we consciously unpack the sub-conscious to highlight and prescribe critical-happiness-factors for a more fulfilling and productive year.
I know that no plan survives unscathed, however, I also know that no planning limits our ability to influence happiness and fulfilment.
“Best year ever” sounds better to me than “just another year”, so I will build on the proven benefits of positive thinking to attract what I hope to achieve.
Equally, I sincerely hope that you take some time to plan for your “best year ever” next year!
