The Best and The Worst Ways to Lead Your Team Into 2024
Are you leading your team with current-day trends and needs, or are you stuck in the past? Leadership changes frequently, causing us leaders to keep up with what our teams need to work at their best.?
I am here to tell you what you should prioritize in 2024 and what you can leave in the past. At the end of the day, we all just want to be better leaders.
The Best Ways to Effectively Lead Your Team
1. Be Honest and Transparent
Many leaders try to sugarcoat the challenges the organization is facing or completely leave them in the dark. But that should not be the case. Be transparent and honest with your team about what you are struggling with, working on, and future needs for the business. Not only will this build trust, but it could even give you new perspectives on how to tackle certain issues.
2. Encourage Creativity
Out-of-the-box thinking can catapult a business to major success. When you give your team a level of autonomy to think on their own, come up with new solutions and ideas, and be creative with their workload, you are instilling confidence, collaboration, and increased morale.
3. Be Mindful of Wellness
In 2024, it is time to think of your team members as more than just team members. Remember, they are people. Paying attention to your team's wellness can help increase productivity, efficiency, morale, and trust. This could mean offering gym memberships, wellness days, or mental health resources.
4. Don’t Take Things Personally?
You are bound to receive criticism and input from your team members and the leaders above you, but it is important not to take it personally. Hearing other perspectives and absorbing criticism can help you improve and see different ways of doing something. It can be more helpful than anything.?
5. Give People What they Need, Not What They Want?
You are there for your team member’s success. To do that, you must look at what they need rather than want. This could mean some assistance on certain tasks, constructive criticism, growth opportunities, mentorship, or a personalized journey toward success. Work with them to help them grow and succeed, as sometimes they might not want that constructive feedback, but it can be exactly what they need to move in the right direction.
What to Avoid When Leading
1. Being Untrusting
Not trusting your team could look like micromanaging, hovering, not delegating, or not communicating. When you don’t allow yourself to trust your team, you effectively put more work on your shoulders while draining their confidence. Trust is essential.

2. Not Providing a Vision
Your team should have a clear understanding of the vision and mission of the organization. Not only will this give them something to work toward, but it will also keep everyone on the same page on what it means to work there. Without vision, everyone will work for different reasons, leading to unpredictable quality and unmotivated workers.
3. Allowing the Power to Go to Your Head
All leaders should have humility. You must know where the line is between being proud and being egotistical. When you don’t, you won’t recognize your own failures, and you will not be able to grow any further. This also means growing your emotional intelligence for the well-being of yourself and your team members.
4. Trying to Win Arguments Rather Than Winning People
The eagerness to win an argument can get addicting. You want that boost of pride. But winning an argument is not a step in the right direction. If you want to truly make progress, grow, and move toward success with those around you, work on winning the people, not the words. Speak to them, not the argument, and practice showing rather than telling. Winning the people is much more productive to your big picture.?
5. You Find What You Are Looking For?
If you only look for the bad, you are going to find the bad. If you have presumptions about someone negatively, you will only view them in a negative light. It’s time to change. Look for the positive things in people. Even if it is someone you are not completely fond of, focusing on the positive can help you change your view of them and lead to a stronger relationship and changed assumptions. Look for the positives, and you will find the positives.
Don’t Be Afraid of Change and Growth
In 2024, you want to be an example for your team members. They look up to you for insight and answers. As you work toward becoming an even better leader this year, the two things I recommend the most are not being afraid of change and growth. Change is inevitable. You must be ready and willing to adapt. Growth will only help you get better. This means going out of your way to learn new things, listening to your team, and possibly looking for a mentor or coach.
In 2024, your mission is to grow!
