The Best Way to Help Wipe Out Cancer from Our World

Cancer is the worst. Literally the worst. It effects every single one of us many times over. You can avoid smoking, power lines, junk food, and other environmental habits and still most of us will either personally encounter cancer or have someone in our immediate family who does.

Having even a tiny role in helping the research and innovation engine that is required to tackle cancer is a big part of what drives me and my coworkers to do what we do at Biocom and it is what drives many of the researchers and innovators in our industry to come to work each day.

One of the best ways all of us can help bring an end to cancer as we know it is to donate to causes that truly make a difference. Pedal the Cause is one of those organizations and I’m reaching out to you today to ask for your support and/or participation.

100% of the fundraising dollars raised from this event goes directly to cancer research. Not overhead and huge fancy buildings, but actual research. It is one of the biggest reasons that I choose to ride.

This year I am riding for a dear friend of ours who passed away this year after spending a third of his life battling pediatric brain cancer. I am riding for #Tommystrong and for eradicating pediatric and all cancer as soon as possible. No one should have to go through what Tommy and his family endured over the past three years and there will be a moment in time when we will have a cure for cancer. We can impact when that moment in our history comes. Every dollar helps. Pledge, walk, run, or ride with Team Biocom or if you want to start a team for your company you can have that team link up with us under Team CoolBio. Here are the details:

  • Padres Pedal Overview: Padres Pedal the Cause is a San Diego-based 501(c)3 organization committed to ending cancer by funding the best collaborative research taking place in our community at Moores Cancer Center, the Salk Institute, Sanford Burnham Prebys, and Rady Children’s Hospital. Through the first six years, Padres Pedal has donated over $10 million to fund 54 translational research projects that bring together teams of basic researchers with clinical practitioners and oncologists including 5 clinical trials at Moores Cancer Center.
  • Event Details: Saturday November 16 at Petco Park
  • 4 Cycling Routes: all routes cross the Coronado Bay Bridge and range from 25-100 miles
  • Spin Classes: bikes are still open in the 9am and 1pm spin classes!
  • 5K Walk/Run: family friendly 5K begins at 10am
  • Kids Challenge: kids ages 3-12 can ride a bike, scooter, tricycle around the Park and finish on Centerfield
  • Celebration on Centerfield: all participants finish on centerfield for a celebration with live music, inspirational programs, complimentary food and beer

My ask is that each of you finds a way to get involved with Team Biocom and Padres Pedal the Cause to help support cancer research in our community in one of the following ways:

  • Donate to my fundraising here
  • Join us on November 16th at Petco Park – I’ll be doing the 25 or 55 mile cycling route over the Coronado Bridge – go to gopedal.org/register to get started and join under Team Biocom.
  • Or if you have a corporate team or want to start one just email me back and we’ll get you under our umbrella team which is called Team CoolBio.

Finally, we will be hosting a free spin class followed by happy hour on Tuesday, November 5th at our offices in La Jolla. Come spin with us and learn more about Padres Pedal and how you can get involve. (click here to RSVP for the spin class on November 5th).

Thank you, and I look forward to fighting this fight with all of you!
