The best way to grow your Private Practice in 2023

Did you set any goals for your Private Practice in in 2022?

If so, did you achieve them?

Or, did you set some goals, but you'd pretty much forgotten what they were by the end of January? If so, you’re not alone.

Many Clinicians do set goals for their practices, but many also fail to lock in a monthly check-in on their goals, or they don’t action them because they’ve not chunked them down in manageable steps.

Others fall by the way because they didn’t have external (or internal) accountability.

Many give up on marketing activity goals because they just don’t know what is the best use of their time.

If this is you, you’re in good company. You’re a busy clinician! Don’t beat yourself up if this has happened. That was pretty much my story too, in the first couple years of my Private Practice.

What really works to grow a Private Practice?

If your goal is to grow a thriving and profitable Private Practice in 2023, you need to be able to take consistent action, and you also need to know where to focus your energy and time.

In other words, you need to know that any time you spend on marketing your practice is going to get you results.

Let’s start with what you probably do know about what works for you in terms of getting patients into clinic. Even if answering this question feels a little hazy, chances are, you will have access to some ‘data’.

Do you know from your Practice Management software system who were your key referrers, or do you know what kind of case numbers for different clinical conditions you saw?

Can you say with reasonable clarity which of your patients were most profitable (e.g. if you’re a physiotherapist, was it seeing an ACL-rehab patient from start to finish?), and can you say how those patients came to see you for treatment? If so, great. Can you also influence how many of these patients come to find you?

For many Clinicians, this is where their knowledge about where their patients came from ends. ?And whilst networking and developing referral networks with other clinicians is very important, I believe that even more important is focusing your time and energy on marketing directly to future patients. Why? Because you ultimately don’t have control over word-of-mouth or clinical referrals, but you do have control over how patients find you online.

Make 2023 the year you set goals to seriously grow your practice through your online presence.

This means developing website content that attracts patients and converts them into patients who book in with you, making video and social media content, and email marketing.

All of this is trackable with analytics, which means you can literally determine at a granular level, that e.g. your knee replacement patient came across your website when they did a Google search about ‘can I play tennis after a knee replacement’, they then read a couple more pages on your site, signed up to your email list and received an email sequence with videos and testimonials that answered their concerns and overcame their objections, and they clicked a link to book a consultation with you.

You can also set goals within analytics so that you can know with certainty that your website page converts ‘x’ number of patients who land on it, and also how they came to find your site (e.g. via a Google search for a specific search term, or via a link from your YouTube video post). All of this means you can make what’s already working even better (and maybe then put an ad-spend behind it, once the page is converting well), and you’ll know for sure where to focus your time and effort.

So, don’t remain in the dark; make digital marketing one of your key goals for 2023.
