THE BEST VITAMINS TO TAKE FOR OPTIMUM VISION
Vitamins are great and essential for our optimum overall health.
And most definitely for our eyes.
Taking essential vitamins keeps Age-Related Macular Degeneration at bay. Deficiency in some of these vitamins can lead to increased risks in certain eye diseases and conditions such as cataracts, Age-related Macular Degenerations (ARMD), glaucoma among others.
For this article, here is a couple I deem really essential.
Beta-Carotene (Vitamin A)
This is my absolute necessity. Not only does it help the eyes see in low light, but it also helps against Dry Eyes disease. The deficiency of this vitamin can lead to night blindness and at the same time, overdosing can lead to toxicity.
Common sources include: Mango, Carrots, Peppers, Milk, Yoghurts, etc
Vitamin E
I call this 'my antioxidant power house'. Antioxidants are known to fight free radicals that damage tissues in the body, in this case, the eyes. Vitamin E is known to help against cataracts.
Common sources include Soybean Oil, Peanuts, Almonds, Spinach, etc.

The B Family (Vitamins B6, B9, and B12)
There is research that linked this family to the reduction of ARMDs and cataracts. They are also very effective.
Common sources include meat, egg, leafy green vegetables, Oats, etc
Vitamin C
This is also another powerful antioxidant that has been known to be effective against cataracts and ARMDs.
Common sources include Oranges, Grapes, Strawberries, Potatoes, etc
Incorporating these vitamins in your daily meal will not only help in preventing most of these eye diseases, but it will also help in their treatment. Good enough our natural environment is blessed with a great number of leafy green vegetables. So as you are approaching 40, it is important that you become more intentional with your food, its content, and its preparation.
Prevention we know is better than cure and early detection is key to preventable blindness.
