The Best Tools for Autumn Gardening
ADA Fastfix Limited
An industry leading supplier of dry-lining & building materials, power tools & more.
Like the first episode of Game of Thrones – Winter is coming! But first comes Autumn and with the change of seasons comes a lot of change in nature. Trees begin to lose their leaves; the days become shorter; the weather becomes wetter and windier amongst other things.
These changes also make it harder to maintain a garden worthy of the Chelsea flower show, however it’s not an impossible task and this is where we can help you.
Leaves
The first true sign of Autumn arriving is the leaves turning brown and falling from the trees and usually finding their way onto your garden/driveway. Whether dry or wet we can provide you with a leaf blower for all different size gardens:
Grass
With the weather getting wetter and windier plus the days getting shorter it makes for the perfect recipe for a nice grassy garden to turn into a bit of a mud bath. It’s unlikely that you will have the grass becoming overgrown and out of control, instead the issue will be keeping it healthy and strong through the cold and having it in good condition for when spring rolls around.
First of all, it’s important to use our first step about keeping the grass surface clear of leaves as much as possible and the quickest way to do this is my using a blower (see above).
Next if you’re doing the first cut of the lawn since the summer you first of all want to wait until you have the driest conditions possible. Cutting wet grass with a lawnmower is a quick way of breaking it and making it useless. Once the grass is dry you want to be using the highest cutting mode of the lawn mower to give the grass its first cut.
When cutting the grass in the autumn and winter it’s important to keep it at a long yet maintained length. As there is less sunlight due to the daylight savings the grass will not grow as much so by allowing it to grow and keep it long it will strengthen it ready for spring and summer where there might be more foot traffic on it.
Another tool that might be necessary for maintaining a lawn space is a strimmer. A strimmer is the perfect tool for if you want to make crisp edges around your lawn; if you have grass growing close to a wall or angle in the garden where a conventional mower cannot reach or if you only have a small area you want to maintain.

Up from this is the FlexVolt trimmer – DCM571X1-GB. This version of the trimmer is a lot more powerful as it is a FlexVolt tool. This tool also comes with a brush knife and a brush cutter adaptor kit allowing the user to not only use it the same as the XR version but also use the tool for heavy duty clearing such as removing thick brambles and other greenery that may have built up.

Branches and Logs
As the leaves begin to fall and branches become clear there is no better time to cut back some of the branches that may be overhanging on your property or maybe cut back a hedge that has started to become overgrown.
We have 2 tools that are perfect for if you’re working from the ground or at height:
Secondly, if you have branches at height that you want to remove then the safest and most efficient option is the DeWalt DCMPH566N-XJ. Rather than you risking your health and safety by attempting to cut branches off a ladder, this tool has a maximum reach of 3.35m. It also has different fixed head positions as well as an articulating head which allows cutting at awkward heights and in awkward positions. This is an XR powered tool making it compatible with the majority of the DeWalt outdoor range.
Other Accessories:
We can not only provide you with the tools for the job but we also have PPE and other accessories that will help you complete the job in a safe manner.
