The Best Time to Eat

I have seen a lot of posts about food timing. Timing our food is a great tool to use for losing weight. AND- we also need to pay attention, first and foremost to our own wisdom about when to eat. Stop eating when it is “time” to eat.
Eat ONLY when you are actually hungry and let your body fall into its own natural rhythm. Then, if we want, we can add a little structure around timing your meals. (Hint: Breakfast may be important, but it doesn’t have to happen in the morning!)
- It isn’t complicated, don’t have to be on a diet-just need to trust ourselves.
2. Don’t eat on a schedule, eat when you are hungry.
3. This falls into the category of being simple. So, it is easy to do and easy not to do. Do it!
4. This helps with getting in touch with your REAL hunger signals vs watching the clock or talking yourself into eating.

5 年Thanks for sharing Traci. The term ‘exercise’ fosters a ‘one and done’ for the day mindset. Frequent movements breaking away from and out of static positions is imperative and extremely beneficial. And there are lots of benefits to daily physical labor and chores, although supposedly people are so ‘time-constrained’ that they hire out so that they can ‘hurry up’ to go sit in front of a screen! For the aging adult, ‘train’ 3-4X/week, walk and perform mobility work DAILY and move around a lot throughout the day! Tailor training to live, labor, work, caregive, play and compete ‘til we can’t! ?? Pat

5 年Hi Traci, I'm always happy to hear people introduce awareness of hunger (of course I would, given that my company is Am I Hungry? Mindful Eating Programs and Training!). However, I share Jon's concerns about using hunger awareness for weight loss. In fact, any weight-focused interventions undermine sustainable changes and contribute to disordered eating and weight stigma.? In addition, using hunger as a rule (as in "eat only when you are hungry") amounts to restriction, leading to feelings of deprivation, rebellion, cravings, guilt, and giving up. In addition to my article, Mindful Eating and Weight Loss: Setting the Record Straight that Jon already shared, here are two other resources that will explain these concerns further: A brief article - How to Turn Mindful Eating Into a Diet - https://amihungry.com/articles/mindful-eating-diet/ and a video, A Non-Diet, Weight-Neutral, Mindfulness-Based Approach - https://amihungry.com/articles/a-non-diet-weight-neutral-mindfulness-based-approach-to-optimal-well-being. ? While I completely agree that hunger awareness is a missing element, in my 20 years of working with thousands of individuals and health and wellness professionals, I feel strongly that it is a far more effective tool when we leave weight loss and rigid rules out of the picture. I welcome further conversation if you are interested in learning more!

5 年Traci -"The thing of our food is a great tool to use for losing weight."? I assume you mean the "timing." Even with that change the statement is misleading at best. While paying attention to your eating (mindful eating, intuitive eating) can be beneficial - tying it to weight loss or guaranteeing weight loss as a result - which you seem to be doing is simply not supported by the research and can actually be detrimental. I don't know whether your training includes much on nutrition, and I am sure you mean to be helpful, but most experts in this area will tell you the same thing. Here is a piece from one of the leading experts in this space (https://amihungry.com/articles/mindful-eating-and-weight-loss/) - I hope you will read it and reconsider connecting the two - take care - Dr. Jon
