The best things in life are free… right?
Castle Water
The UK's largest independent business water supplier & the only water retailer that will give you an instant online.
All licensed premises in England and Wales are required by law to provide “free potable water” to their customers upon request. In Scotland, a similar law exists but specifies it should be “tap water fit for drinking”.
However, these premises are allowed to charge people for the use of a glass – or their service – when serving the “free” tap water.
Unlicensed premises in the UK do not have to legally supply free drinking water. However, in an effort to reduce the amount of plastic used, many cafés, restaurants, bars and shops, both independent establishments and national chains, are happy to refill your water bottle for free. Many are found on apps which will show you your nearest participating business. By doing so, they’re creating positive customer relationships, as well as encouraging increased footfall.
And as all UK employers must always provide clean, freely available drinking water in the workplace for all staff members, it’s not going to cost a business much financially to begrudge free drinking water to members of the public.
The PR benefits are immeasurable and with so many hospitality businesses, and some retail businesses, offering it via apps or window stickers anyway, refusing to give someone a glass of water or fill up their water bottle would now reflect very badly on your brand. Plus, a happy and well-hydrated customer is much more likely to consider sampling your other products!
