Best things in life come for free

A poor man asked the Buddha, “Why am I so poor?” The Buddha said, “you do not learn to give.” So the poor man said, “If I’m not having anything?” Buddha said: “You have a few things, the Face: which can give a smile; Mouth: you can praise or comfort others; The heart: it can open up to others; Eyes: who can look the other with the eyes of goodness; Body: which can be used to help others.” These things are free. We have the power to brighten someone’s day so be happy and spread it.

We have the beautiful gods creation and colorful nature telling us to color our life. Every morning sun rises for everyone and inspires us. We have our unique personality and imaginations. Someone who loves us. Happiness and friendship all around . See the happiness in the child’s face eating chocolates or playing with balloons who is too young to understand the complexities of life and imagine yourself in that situation. We have our present ; power of now . We have the power to remain in peace with present.

The best things in Life that are free. Like waking up next to someone you love with all your heart knowing that you're going to spend the rest of your life with them. Seeing them peacefully lie next to you with their eyes closed makes you smile and you feel like the luckiest person in the whole world. Hoping that this moment is something they also treasure. No one can take that moment from you, that moment of sheer bliss.

Sitting next to the fire place on a cold snowy Sunday morning. Curled up on the couch, reading a good book. Or maybe even rereading one of your favorite books. A cup of coffee with a packet of hot chocolate mixed in, sitting on the side table right next to you. The only voices you hear are of the characters from your book, your book becomes more real than ever before. You rekindle the flame of love you once had for reading and completely lose yourself within the book.

Someone making you smile. There are those half smiles you get while walking down a street of strangers, then there are the creepy stares and then the person who totally ignores the fact that you have looked at them. But sometimes you receive a smile so genuine you wonder what that person is thinking. You wonder what made them so happy, and you simply want to thank them for their smile because it brightened your day a little more than it had been.

Being productive with your time and finishing everything on your long checklist of "To Do's". I'm someone who likes to make lists. I make lists when I go grocery shopping, I have a list of homework assignments I must complete, I wrote a list of things I want to do with my friend when we see each other again, I continually list the books I want to read and obtain to add to my library, I even wrote a list for things I want to overcome as a person in order to improve my life. I'm a list person. And as a list person it feels extremely amazing to check off everything from a list. A list that I made intentionally to finish and now I have finished it. To actually acknowledge the fact that I have completed these tasks, brings me joy.'

Free Food for everyone and everyday throughout the year is served at Gurudwaras. Langar are the common kitchen/canteen where food is served in a Gurdwara to all the visitors (without distinction of background) for free. It was designed to uphold the principle of equality between all people regardless of religion, caste, colour, creed, age, gender or social status, a revolutionary concept in the caste-ordered society of 16th-century India where Sikhism began. In addition to the ideals of equality, the tradition of langar expresses the ethics of sharing, community, inclusiveness and oneness of all humankind. "...the Light of God is in all hearts."

People from all classes of society are welcomed at the Gurudwara. Food is normally served twice a day, on every day of the year. Each week one or more families volunteer to provide and prepare the langar. This is very generous, as there may be several hundred people to feed, and caterers are not allowed. All the preparation, the cooking and the washing-up is also done by voluntary helpers, known as Sewadars. And we never realized the importance of that sky, so beautiful, so magical, so full of amazement, entrapping so many thoughts, sometimes twinkled, sometimes carmined, carrying all the wonders of the universe, it glazed for free, for that long.

Your mother applying warm coconut oil to your head after you had a tough day. It's free. (Don't tell me the price of oil). Looking at the sky above your head with beautiful clouds. It's free. Going for a walk at night, to a quiet place, observing the surroundings and talking to yourself. It's free. Your childhood, your first love and the best days of your life are maybe gone. But nobody can take away their memories from you. You can always recall them. It's free. Well, these are just a few things.

But if you want to ride a BMW or travel to places in the first class, spend your vacations in an exotic resort or go to expensive restaurants, visit Alaska to witness the auroras, go for paragliding in the New Zealand's, bungee jumping in China or scuba diving in the Malaysia and wake up every morning in a king size bed and eat lavish meals, then I am sorry. You need to work your ass off for that and earn big.

Okay.. except when your dad is a Bill or a Mark. Talking about best things: Breath: We give one to take one. It is not free. Food: We get one from money. It is not free. Relations: We give time to be with someone. It is not free. Piano: It is not free too. Can be bought only through money. Love: Comes naturally. Still, to make it stay with us whole life, we have to give our commitment and time. It is not free. Cheers!
