The Best of Super Bowl LIII
I won’t claim to be a football fanatic by any means, and I’ll admit that I didn’t even understand the sport until high school. I enjoy watching college football, but you’ll never witness me watching an NFL game unless the Panthers are playing or it’s Super Bowl Sunday.
Perhaps I’m a bandwagon fan of the Super Bowl in general and feel the need to watch it only because millions of Americans are also tuned in. This year, similar to in years past, I watched it mostly for the ads and the halftime show. Plus, I’m not the biggest fan of the Patriots and I’m tired of watching them dominate every season.
This year’s Super Bowl was very disappointing in several ways. The football game itself was boring, as it was the lowest scoring Super Bowl in history. Four quarters felt like four years. Not only that, but I was fairly unimpressed by the ads and the halftime show was extremely average.
This is not to say there weren’t any good ads, however. As an advertising major and creative thinker, I have learned a lot about what makes an effective advertising campaign and I’ve learned to appreciate ads a bit more than I used to.
