The Best Solution to Alleviate Hospital Overload from COVID-19 In NYC (and Globally) So Far

As you may have heard or experienced first-hand, the situation with COVID-19 here in New York has become very bad.
Hospitals are severely impacted; people are queueing up for 7-8+ hours just to be admitted and we are facing mask shortages, along with other critical supplies hospitals need to safely treat patients.
Unfortunately, much of the United States and the world is likely not far behind New York right now. The US healthcare system does not have enough capacity to treat everyone who is infected with COVID-19, given the virus's current progression.
I have been offering my time and services to various friends trying to come up with solutions to save lives for coronavirus where governments have been falling short.
One of my extremely bright friends here in NYC, Adam Sah, has been closely collaborating with the medical community to find better solutions to these critical problems. He just shared with me a very promising solution to alleviate the hospital overcrowding situation here in NYC (and globally), while also saving more lives.
WHAT IT IS: in-home monitoring for COVID patients, instead of burdening hospitals or turning away patients - directly relieves the NYC meltdown. It's already live in Mt Sinai Hospital in NYC, and scaling fast. ~$25 per patient, no overhead.
Why I'm donating to this cause
I am personally going to donate to this cause, and I would recommend that every tech entrepreneur and anyone with some extra money do the same, as this could save many lives (including your own).

4 年One thing to clarify that another friend mentioned on a Facebook post in case you're confused: If you do want to donate, please select "Abilities Research Center" when on the Mount Sinai donations page.

4 年thx! for the shout-out... we're working (literally) around the clock trying to scale up this program, in time for the next wave of cases this week. As a software guy, it's very strange that we're limited by a $25 piece of consumer hardware but that's at least solvable, and I chipped in $5,000 then sent it off to friends, who've been piling on to get enough of these to cover the 1000s of cases we're expecting. Good news: the devices are in New Jersey and there's no price gouging. Once this fire drill is out, the next step is a bit trickier, which is to scale up the whole program with staffing/training, software changes, etc etc. For example, one of the crazy little things that bogs things down, is supporting users who need to install the Zoom app on their phones. One old friend volunteered, who's a wizard at support, but we're going to need a lot more people! At the other extreme, if we're going to replicate this, we need people with intimate understanding of EHR systems (esp EPIC) and MyCap/RedCap. We've got a bunch of help, but more is definitely appreciated.
