The best season is coming - time to plan your visit to Cambodia!

The best season in Cambodia is shortly approaching - the rainy season will finish by mid November and the weather will be still relatively fresh leaving the vegetation blossoming with flourishing lotus lakes and rice paddies.

This is also a time of the year filled with amazing events or festivals which are just worth the trip, particularly to those curious to learn more about the Khmer culture. We have listed the most important upcoming events at the bottom of the page.

 It is also the perfect time for you to plan ahead a professional volunteering experience in Cambodia, you could do something good by sharing your skills and expertise for meaningful projects and worthwhile organizations whist enjoying cultural, religious or sporting events.

 Calendar of upcoming events

September 19th, 20th, 21st we celebrate  “ Pchum Ben”  “ Ancestors' Day “ a unique Cambodian Buddhist celebration consisting in a colourful religious festival blessing the souls of ancestors, relatives and friends alike who have passed away. Household members attend Buddhist temples bringing colourful offerings in the pagodas.

November 2nd, 3rd, 4th it is Water Festival, Moon festival and Boat racing. The highlight of the event are the boat races that are held over three days. When night falls, fireworks light the sky and a lighted flotilla of boats sail aloft for good luck. People from all walks of life gather on the bank of the river either in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap for several days and nights.

December 3rd -  Angkor Wat international Marathon . People from all over the world flock to Siem Reap for this internationally recognized charity race, in its 22nd edition, which offers different categories from 3 km to the half marathon.

January 1st, New Years’ Day - Although an official holiday, until a few years ago not widely celebrated in Cambodia. Now, not only expats and tourists attend the fireworks at the riverside to welcome the new year, but thousands of Khmers as well.

These are standard dragon boats with 20 paddlers each. When we competed in Thailand, we encountered a version with 55 paddlers. An awesome sight.
