The Covid-19 pandemic shook up the state of work. While remote opportunities and flexible schedules have been an obvious change, Forbes senior contributor Heather Newman writes that a more under-the-radar shift is the fact that a considerable number of people—even high-level executives—are rethinking their careers post-pandemic .

“We’re having the highest rate of CEO turnover on the books,” says Aileen K. Alexander, CEO of Diversified Search Group (DSG), the largest woman-founded and woman-led executive search firm in the world. Alexander also says that she’s seeing professionals take more “non-linear paths to leadership—crossing sectors, crossing industries, moving from public to private-equity backed roles.”

More companies are turning to recruiting firms to uncover top executive talent, says DeLynn Senna, president for Robert Half’s executive search global operations. But there are many options out there, and it can be difficult for organizations to know which recruiting firm might fit their company best—and it can be similarly difficult for candidates to decide which can help them best.

In addition to focusing on the fast-moving tech and AI sectors, companies continue to push for more diversity among employees and leadership—and recruiters are able to help in this area. Research has found diversity to be beneficial to both work culture and a company’s bottom line. In fact, a recent report from McKinsey & Company determined that companies in the top quartile of female representation on executive teams were 39% more likely to financially outperform their bottom-quartile peers.

2. Navigate tax deductions and home office benefits: “Document your expenses meticulously to claim deductions for your workspace, internet and utility bills,” Magelssen says. “This can lead to significant savings come tax season.”
3. Cut costs on essentials: “Energy-efficient appliances and homemade meals over takeout drastically reduce monthly expenses and will keep your wallet happy,” Magelssen insists. “Invest in smart power strips and energy-efficient appliances. Use natural lighting during the day … and instead of heating or cooling the entire house, focus on the room you are working in.”
