Best Reads Roundup: Hindsight Bias, Screens. It's What's on Them That Counts, & Why I'm a Proud Solutionist
In my work as a behavioral designer, I come across important stories on how psychology influences our behavior. Every week, I share my round-up of the most important stories at the intersection of psychology, technology, and business. I hope you enjoy them!
Hindsight bias occurs when something happens and we feel that we "knew it all along". It's the tendency for people to perceive past events as having been more predictable than they were. An investor might think, "Of course the stock market crashed this year. I knew it would!" despite not having sold out when there was a chance. But this "creeping determinism" (as it's also been called) isn’t really about the past. It hurts us the most by impacting how we make decisions regarding the future.
You know what they say about screens: "you'll get square eyes". This brilliant stop-motion animation from BBC shows us how technology can be either a boon or target for blame, depending on how we decide to use it.

1 年Nir. I love your books, and just subscribed here too. What a great article on hindsight bias. It's crazy how it changes how we see the past. Especially considering we often make split second decisions, not really giving the chance to check in with our biases. It's a good example to just slow down, reflect and take a breath. Tnx!
