Best Reads Roundup: Hindsight Bias, Screens. It's What's on Them That Counts, & Why I'm a Proud Solutionist

In my work as a behavioral designer, I come across important stories on how psychology influences our behavior. Every week, I share my round-up of the most important stories at the intersection of psychology, technology, and business. I hope you enjoy them!

Hindsight Bias: Why You Make Terrible Life Choices (NirAndFar)

Hindsight bias occurs when something happens and we feel that we "knew it all along". It's the tendency for people to perceive past events as having been more predictable than they were. An investor might think, "Of course the stock market crashed this year. I knew it would!" despite not having sold out when there was a chance. But this "creeping determinism" (as it's also been called) isn’t really about the past. It hurts us the most by impacting how we make decisions regarding the future.

Nir. I love your books, and just subscribed here too. What a great article on hindsight bias. It's crazy how it changes how we see the past. Especially considering we often make split second decisions, not really giving the chance to check in with our biases. It's a good example to just slow down, reflect and take a breath. Tnx!

Love the article on hindsight bias, Nir Eyal. The phenomenon often results in superstitious thinking and poor judgment.
