Best practise transparency for Paris-aligned investing - Swiss Climate Scores

Urgency for climate action

The world economy should transition to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by mid century. This is needed to hold the increase in the global temperature to well below 2°C and pursuing efforts to limit it to 1.5°C. Current science indicates that global warming beyond 1.5°C has potentially catastrophic impacts on the natural world and human society.

In order for investors and financial markets to be able to contribute to climate goals, they need meaningful and comparable information as to how compatible various investment products are with international climate goals.

Together with NGOs, universities, and the financial industry, the Swiss government established the Swiss Climate Scores to define what Switzerland views as best practice transparency on climate alignment for investment products to foster investment decisions which contribute to reaching the climate goals.

The Federal Council recommends to all Swiss financial institutions to apply such transparency on all investment products and investment management mandates, where applicable.?

Introduction to the Swiss Climate Scores

The Swiss Climate Scores include both current-state and forward-looking indicators, given the need to assess the level of ambition of firms included in the portfolio.
