Best Practices in Setting Up Global Capability Centers in India

India has become a popular destination for setting up global capability centers (GCCs) due to its large pool of skilled talent, cost-effectiveness, and supportive government policies. However, setting up a GCC in India is not without its challenges. Here are some best practices to help you get started:

  1. Start with a clear goal. What do you want your GCC to achieve? Are you looking to offshore back-office functions, or do you want to create a center of excellence for innovation? Once you know your goal, you can start to develop a plan to achieve it.
  2. Choose the right location. There are many different cities in India that offer a good environment for GCCs. Some factors to consider when choosing a location include the availability of talent, the cost of living, and the infrastructure.
  3. Build a strong team. The success of your GCC will depend on the quality of your team. Make sure to hire the best people you can find, and provide them with the training and resources they need to succeed.
  4. Invest in technology. GCCs rely on technology to operate efficiently. Make sure to invest in the right technology infrastructure, and train your team on how to use it effectively.
  5. Create a culture of innovation. GCCs should be places where innovation is encouraged and rewarded. Create a culture where employees feel comfortable taking risks and trying new things.
  6. Measure your success. It's important to track the performance of your GCC so that you can make necessary adjustments as needed. Set clear goals and metrics, and track your progress against them.

By following these best practices, you can increase your chances of success when setting up a GCC in India.

Additional Tips

  • Involve your employees in the planning process. This will help to get them excited about the project and make them more likely to be successful.
  • Communicate regularly with your employees about the progress of the project. This will help to keep them informed and engaged.
  • Be flexible and adaptable. Things don't always go according to plan, so be prepared to make changes as needed.
  • Celebrate your successes. This will help to keep your team motivated and engaged.

Setting up a GCC in India can be a rewarding experience. By following these best practices, you can increase your chances of success.

Great article on setting up GCCs. GCCs are growing. Walk or drive down the roads in Bengaluru, India and you will spot several global name boards. These global companies have established small (about 100 people) to large (1000s of people) centers with focus on innovation, efficiency, and market access. Agree with Siddhartha Tripathi on the need for better training. We found that companies embracing a culture of continuous training build stronger teams with better outcomes. We RapL Inc are thankful for the great partnership and support from leading companies like Nestlé Toyota Motor Corporation and many more.
