Best Practices for the New LinkedIn Algorithm

As some of you know, I've recently been on a bit of a mission to help as many people as possible use LinkedIn to make an impact, grow their businesses, and attract more customers, clients, and partners.
"Why?", you may ask. Because the network is changing, and also because of what happened to my company, once I started using it correctly.
Over the past 10 years, I've personally used LinkedIn to establish our business as a leading expert and authority in our niche.
In fact, this singular social network has driven hundreds of millions of dollars in leads, sales, and opportunities to our agency, as well as to our customers and business partners.
It's how I've helped clients make connections with decision-makers and buyers for Disney, Whole Foods, major league sports stadiums, and even the U.S. Navy.
It's how we've landed multi-year, six-figure deals with clients and brands we had never met.
And it's been an incredible community for us to become a part of, helping us establish lifelong relationships and strong business connections.
LinkedIn changed how we operated, and the types of clients we were attracting (and yes, I said 'attracting', not cold pitching). But most importantly, it allowed me to get my time back in ways I never thought were possible.
Today, there are over 830 million members on the network, but here's the thing: only 3 million are actively creating content.
That means that, with just a little effort, you too can use this community to attract more customers and accomplish your business goals!
It's also worth noting that the LinkedIn algorithm has changed once again. In fact, there have been over 30+ new changes and upgrades on LinkedIn just this year alone.
So, without further adieu, here are the current best tips and practices for you to use right now on LinkedIn.
2022 LINKEDIN BEST PRACTICES TO INCREASE VISIBILITY
Words Count. Literally.
Don't share content without anything written on it. LinkedIn's algorithm will acknowledge (aka, 'see') your content when you have written at least 150 words in your post, so if you have something to share, make it count.
That means videos, photos, or written content-only posts need to have *some* value for passersby to immediately read. If you post a video with no explanation, the LinkedIn algorithm will be unhappy ??, resulting in a lower exposure on the network for your posts.
Hash It Up, But Not Too Much
Hashtags are your 'friend' but stick to no more than 3 hashtags when posting.

Hashtags on LinkedIn can help spread the post beyond your connections and add value for search, including on Google. Try to find a mix of your specific niche and popular hashtags to effectively reach your audience.
You can also make your own unique hashtag for customers to follow. For my posts, I use the tag #profitsecrets. You can add this tag to social media posts to encourage personal brand recognition across multiple networks, as well.
Define Your Ideal Customer or Audience
Now is the time to define a customer persona, if you haven't already done so. Whether you're looking to connect with working moms, current or former corporate executives, small business owners, or brand founders, doing so will allow you to tailor your content to their specific needs, target an ideal audience, and also serve them by publishing when they want to hear from you (mornings, afternoons, weekends, etc). LinkedIn's algorithm likes posts that are more targeted, and those that encourage engagement, so don't forget your call to action!
A clearly defined ideal customer persona, or ICP, will also help with other social networks. Having an ICP clearly framed out, especially with content, can both reduce costs for social media advertising on places like Facebook, and also increase the likelihood of a sale.
Tag Creators & Authors
Remember to tag a creator or author with content credit if you’re resharing a post. LinkedIn will consider that post to be even more relevant if the author engages with your post, so again, be sure you add value with additional content. Both parties will benefit from increased visibility, making this a win-win celebration for everyone!
Don't Be Spammy
Although we all have a lot to say about specific topics that matter to us, it's important to try to avoid publishing too much content all at once. The LinkedIn algorithm doesn't like spam, so aim for 2 to 5 times a week, but no more than 5 times in a day.
