"The best pizza in the world"?

"The best pizza in the world"

"The best pizza in the world" really???

"The 10 best pizzeria in Melbourne" really?? where?

It's a statement used commonly in the media to entice you to visit an Italian pizzeria or eatery...

And generally, the pizza is delicious, but is it the best in the world? Have you ever stopped to wonder how you win a pizza competition? I have participated in many pizza competitions and have been a judge in many pizza challenges. And I’m not talking about the title of the best pizza in the world in 2016 in my previous business adventure… that’s a story for another time. On one occasion, I was judging a competition and at the same table of 6 judges, we each gave?6 different scores to the same pizza…. Confusing eh?

If you Google the best pizza maker in the world or pizza challenge or world pizza challenge you will get 100s if not more different results, why? Because there are so many “world pizza challenges” and so as a result so many champions!

And let’s not talk about the many different magazines with titles like "Where to eat the best pizza" or "The best pizza in town." Don’t get me wrong there are definitely some excellent pizzerias on those lists, and also some very good pizza makers in those world champions, but what about the other millions of pizzerias or pizza makers that haven’t been listed? Or that have never participated in any challenges? Does that mean that they are not good?

Yes, that's me

Most importantly… who are the people judging and deciding these lists and champions? Do they themselves, know anything about pizza?

This is where my concern starts, whilst also understanding that it would be impossible to know every pizzeria to exist that does a good job…

The solution? I don’t know yet. But my advice is to support your local pizzeria and if you are happy and satisfied with the product, go and say bravo to the chef or pizza maker, because for us, that is like winning a competition! And if more people do that, every pizza maker will feel like a world pizza champion multiple times a day!

Ciao,?
