Best Person for the Job?
The Situation
Recently, one of our clients reached out and asked us to perform a comprehensive background investigation on a potential new hire. We've been working with them for some time now conducting background investigations, as well as due diligence, and personality profiles.
The Assessment
One of the milestones I am most proud of at MG&A is the development of our elite cyber team. They specialize in using cutting edge technology such as EVI (Employee Reliability Inventory) as part of our background investigation. With this tool, we can successfully weed out the potential employees that are more likely to be loyal or more likely to rob a company blind.
We Went to Work
In this case, we ran our investigation using both our cyber and shoe and leather teams. They utilize the EVI and a personality test to indicate whether the potential employee would remain loyal to the company. Believe it or not, there is a test that can tell an employer how likely the applicant will stay with a company or use it as a stepping-stone.
The Client presented us with the resume and application from a young woman who recently graduated from a local university. She came with glowing praise from her professors, past part-time employers, and held a dual degree that made her a great employee prospect.
During our investigation, we met with her previous employers who had nothing but great things to say about her. The personal interview was very promising. However, once we ran the EVI and personality tests, she wasn't as shiny as her application promised.
A reliable background investigation should not be based on the data alone, context is key and it's essential one looks at an applicant from different angles. We have a professional psychiatrist on hand to recognize what the data does not.
After reviewing the test results, our in-house expert felt the applicant showed a high degree of loyalty, competitiveness, and was more likely to stay with a company until forced out. Not what I had interpreted from the results, but science is science, and our expert concluded the potential employee was a reasonable risk. Turns out we were right!
Two Years Later and Still Going Strong
We shared our findings with the Client, who also saw something special in the applicant. They went forward and hired her. Two years later, she continues to exceed our Clients expectations.
