Best Nail Gun For Quarter Round: 2025 Review

For quarter-round installation, the best nail gun is typically an?18-gauge brad nailer?as it offers a good balance of power to drive nails into the trim while being delicate enough to avoid splitting the wood, making it ideal for most quarter-round applications;?however, depending on the thickness of your quarter round, a 16-gauge finish nailer might be suitable for thicker trims or a 23-gauge pin nailer for very thin or softwood quarter rounds.

1. CRAFTSMAN V20 Brad Nailer

Product Description:

I spent a long time researching the many devices available on the market and comparing them with each other. Yes, you wouldn't believe it, but I ended up with this device and I have to say "great"! The device comes with easy-to-understand operating instructions and the promised staples and nail pins. So I was able to test it straight away and used Fischte for the first attempts.

The staples and pins supplied were sunk in without any problems. You do have to get used to the impact force regulator, but the regulation works perfectly. Depending on the material, you will always have to calibrate it. I then used staples on an 18 mm thick screen printing board. The staples supplied go through and that too without any problems. Since I still had 32 mm staples and was naturally curious to see what else was possible, I nailed a 2 x 18 mm screen printing board together.

The full impact force was needed here, but the staples were rubbed into within half a millimeter. For me, the test was enough to say "highly recommended"! The only drawback, which does not affect the functionality, is the somewhat short power cable, unfortunately only 2 meters long, and it is also somewhat stiff. Nevertheless... all in all, an amazingly good device and in my opinion worth every cent. By the way... I bought the device myself and paid for it and this is my own opinion! I would recommend buying it.

Oh... I almost forgot! The delivery was very quick and there is nothing to complain about here either.

2. CRAFTSMAN V20 Cordless Brad Nailer

Product Description:

My finish nailer went south on me in the middle of a big project and needed a replacement quickly, and had heard good things about Metabo nail guns. Still working on the projects but Nailer has been problem-free - no jams, no dead shots, seems easy to load. Well constructed, lightweight, and has good balance! I think it's a great price point and takes any of the after-market nails I've fed it. Can't ask for much more - might be better ones but I'm a home project hack and needed something to see me through. I give it 2 drops of good oil before each use and hope it lasts several more years.

Picked this up on sale going out of my usual brand preferences but knowing metabo is a solid pro brand. To functions flawlessly and never miss fires UNLESS you bump it in a certain way and the follower jumps past the nails in the rack. Not a big deal if you notice it right away but has resulted in a few extra nail holes that need filling. Not a deal breaker but compared to my MAX and Makita nailers where you need to pull the follower back load the nails and then release the follower, I will take the extra step for reliability any day. That being said when nails are loaded and follower is in place this tool is 100% solid and I do not regret the purchase.

3. BOSTITCH Framing Nailer

Product Description:

I just finished using this to install tongue-and-groove wainscotting on our porch. It was a pleasure. The Metabo brad nailer fits nicely in my grip, andoperatesd smoothly, with not a single jam. It drove 1-1/4 inch brads with no problem. The safety features were easy to use and effective. Loading brads are unusually easy and problem-free, with guide grooves for the points and the heads to help with orientation and ensure correct positioning. On one load I positioned the brads incorrectly, and the chamber would not close until I corrected the placement. That helps reduce the chance of jamming.T he quality is excellent, and the value is solid. I like this tool.

I normally do not write reviews. This was an emergency purchase. My other expensive 16 gauge nailer blew a seal and wasn't working.I put over 1,000 2 inch 18 gauge brads thru this unit without a problem. It is small light and very dependable. And yes, I used a framing nailer where needed.

4. DEWALT Brad Nailer Kit

Product Description:

I have the other version of this, which is excellent, but it doesn't have the power of this.

When I started to find that the staples wouldn't completely enter the wood I was stapling material to, I knew I needed something more powerful. That's where this 20V version comes in.

As soon as I received this, I charged it and got to work. It is well made and did a great job.

Compared to my brad nailer which needs a noisy compressor, extension cord, air hose, 10 to 15 minutes set up, etc, this Bielmeier cordless needsnonen of the above. It does a fantastic job for brad nails of 1 1/inchesch or less. I am one happy Brad nailer. Thank you, Bielmeier.

Excellent product! Had my doubts about a battery powered brad nailer but this one proved me wrong. FAR better than dragging an air hose from a noisy compressor around the shop. Much better than expected...highly recommend.

5. DURATECH 20V Cordless Brad Nailer

Product Description:

The battery-powered Brad nailer works as advertised. I used it to nail an accent board completely around a repainted bedroom. It helped power well, was WAY quieter than I expected, and was not too heavy for getting up and down the ladder reaching as needed, etc. Myy only complaint is that it did ‘jam’ once in a while and required a re-load of the nails.

It was a little bit of a pain, but once I learned the ‘drill’ it was manageable. And all the while it held power, nailed to the right depth, etc. I would certainly recommend this product as a very good alternativeto most of the other options available. I would buy it again!

Works most of the time. Jams often or just starts blinking for no reason. Pop out the battery and she's back. Idk for the money it works but it's heavy and temperamental.

Update.... I've used 1000 emails thru this and I actually hate it. It's the most frustratingpiecee of garbage. Negate all stars. Run from this!!!

We just bought a home, and with it came various fixes and customizations sparked by our passion to make it truly ours. I decided to tackle replacing some floor trims while redoing the kitchen floor and needed a tool that wouldn't break the bank for just one project. I took a chance on this one, and I’m thrilled with the results. As a first-time power tool owner, I found it incredibly easy to use, and my floors turned out great!

Buying Guide for the Best Nail Gun for Quarter Round

Finding the best nail gun for a quarter round can simplify your home improvement projects, ensuring a smooth and secure installation. To make the right choice, consider the following key factors:

1. Type of Nail Gun

  • Brad Nailers: Ideal for delicate work and finishing, offering precision for quarter-round molding.
  • Finish Nailers: Best for heavier-duty quarter-round installation where extra holding power is required.
  • Pin Nailers: Suitable for very small quarter rounds or lightweight trim.

2. Power Source

  • Pneumatic: Powerful and lightweight, but requires an air compressor.
  • Cordless/Battery-Powered: Portable and convenient for quick installations, though slightly heavier.
  • Electric: Reliable for indoor use but lacks the portability of cordless models.

3. Nail Size and Compatibility

  • Ensure the nail gun supports nails between 1 to 2 inches, which are typically used for quarter-round molding.

4. Weight and Ergonomics

  • Lightweight nail guns reduce fatigue, especially for long projects. Look for ergonomic handles for a comfortable grip.

5. Depth Adjustment

  • Depth adjustment allows you to control how deep the nail is driven, avoiding damage to the molding or surrounding surfaces.

6. Durability and Build Quality

  • Choose a nail gun made from high-quality materials like aluminum or reinforced plastic for longevity and reliability.

7. Additional Features

  • Jam-Clearing Mechanism: Minimizes downtime by quickly clearing stuck nails.
  • LED Lights: Useful for working in dimly lit areas.
  • Belt Hook: Handy for keeping the nail gun within reach during installations.

Conclusion

Investing in the best nail gun for a quarter round can significantly improve the efficiency and quality of your work. Whether you’re a professional contractor or a DIY enthusiast, choosing the right type of nail gun tailored to your needs is essential. Prioritize features like depth adjustment, ergonomic design, and compatibility with nail sizes for quarter-round molding.

For most users, a cordless brad nailer strikes the perfect balance between portability and performance. However, if you're working on extensive or heavy-duty projects, a pneumatic finish nailer might be your best bet.

Start by evaluating your specific project requirements and budget to find the nail gun that will make your quarter-round installation seamless and professional-looking. Don’t forget to check reviews and warranties to ensure you’re purchasing a reliable tool.
