• Mandatory sustainability reporting – January 2024 marks the beginning of the mandatory sustainability reporting period for some medium-large sized companies in jurisdictions like the European Union. The reports will be due in early 2025. Even if this new requirement does not affect you directly, if you do business with companies that must report, you may be asked to give information on greenhouse emissions and other sustainability data.
• Right to Repair – Three US states have now passed Right to Repair bills, which means that manufacturers must open up tools, parts and resources for owners and independent service providers to repair products themselves. Canada is working on a similar bill. Expect to see more movement in this space in 2024.
