Hello Finance?professionals,
I know that many of you want to land a new job ASAP! However, market conditions are not the best for job hunting! ??
I know it's quite frustrating! At some point in my financial career, it took me 2 years to land my target role! 2 years!!! ??
I spent my weekends applying, shooting my CV everywhere. I had no idea that my job search was flawed!
That's why I decided to share with you some strategies I use with my career coaching clients who feel stuck in their job search ??.
Here you go.
1. Set the right job strategy
Failing to plan is planning to fail. If you have no strategy, you will end up with no job! As part of your strategy, you want to define the following:
?? Up to 3 target roles - ensure that you tick at least 60% of the boxes
?? Your timeline - finding a job in 2 months is not the same as in 6 months
?? Your unique selling points - why should they hire you?
Are you undecided about your target roles? Then you can check out this guide I wrote to help you figure out your next career step.
2. List at least 50 target companies
Once you have defined WHAT YOU WANT and WHAT YOU CAN OFFER, you need to define your market. Which companies hire for positions like yours?
Looking for a job in 10 companies differs from finding a position open at 50. Also, different companies have different cultures.
?? What company culture are you looking for? Is it negotiable?
3. Connect with peers and potential hiring managers
Statistics show that only 10% of jobs come from online posting. 15% comes from recruitment companies, but 75% comes from NETWORKING.
Instead of wasting hours of your time applying online, add 20 potential hiring managers a day. They are looking for you as much as you are looking for them!
Needy is creepy. So you don't want to ask directly for a job. However, you can introduce yourself and ask more about:
??the company?
??the sector
??their career
The overall goal is to get information to feed your job search. Most professionals will be able to empathize and spare 15 minutes with you. Others will offer support via texts. Either way, that information is gold because:

??You will be on their radar next time they are hiring
??You can adjust your job search according to the info they give you
4. Change your LinkedIn tagline
Recruiters are looking for you every single day. You need to make it EASY for them to find you. Your tagline will drive views and search results, so it needs to be optimized.
This is the info you need to include:
?? role (s) that you are interested in
??Value add - I help X do Y through Z
??3 top skills required for those roles
5. Connect with recruiters
Recruiters have access to roles BEFORE they are publicly available. It means that you can get ahead of your competition. You want to nurture your relationships by:
??Connect with internal and external recruiters - search for "company AND recruiter" on LinkedIn
???Introducing yourself to recruiters and briefly articulate the Value that you can bring
??Follow up with recruiters so that you are always a top-of-mind candidate
Finally, keep track of your daily actions on a spreadsheet ??. What gets measured gets done!
