While we hear the term investment, it is commonly referred to business affairs, property to accumulate more money, in general?the action or process of investing money for profit.?
The investment I am referring to is investing in yourself.
Taking a step back and assessing the world we live in today; it is clearly moving faster than ever and also known as the Hustle Culture, which in fact is the burn out culture.?
It centres around the idea that working long hours and sacrificing self-care are required in order to succeed.
Without even realising it, we are under the illusion if we work harder and place all our attention on working, we can achieve anything and everything.
Whilst our focus is solemnly placed on making more money and working at a burn out pace, we often forget to pause and check in on ourselves of the most important investment, ourselves and that present moment to enjoy what is right in-front of us and our true needs. When we lose concept of our true needs and what actually makes us happy, we are more inclined to lose prospective of the daily habits such as, looking after our health, eating healthy, taking care of our mindset, exercising daily and making time for ourselves to evaluate our true needs to be better for our loved ones and of course ourselves.
Social media doesn’t help either, from celebrities to people we know showcasing their supposed perfect lifestyle for all to see.
Just because the picture might look perfect to others, doesn’t mean it actually is.?Have you ever thought to yourself this; if their lifestyles where that awesome, wouldn’t they be enjoying that moment supposed to taking a dozen photos a day to show others?
I rest my case!
Investing in ourselves needn’t be daunting nor, feel like a chore if we just gave ourselves a break and actually allowed this magnificent process to be practiced daily. Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t see this and allow the Hustle culture to dictate their destination instead. As a result, the individual loses perspective of who they are and their true needs.
20 Powerful reasons to invest in yourself
1: Your confidence is boosted
Your confidence in your own abilities gets a boost and with it you don’t feed procrastination or fear. Instead, you are more inclined to take the appropriate actions that benefit you by equipping yourself with new knowledge and skills that contribute to making you focus more on your personal development, making you more acquainted with your true authentic self.
You will become more aware of your unique set of strengths, values and passions and how you can use these them to achieve your goals.??
Research shows that those who spend 5 hours or more on learning each week are more likely to feel that their lives have a purpose and meaning, which in turn increases their overall happiness and wellbeing.
2-?It opens up the door to new career opportunities?
When one takes the time to invest in themselves this brings immense benefits to their career, both in the short and long term.
You realise your unique assets and as a result boosts your market value in terms when seeking stuff like; promotion from your current role right down to applying for a new one.
Most employers look for candidates who are self-starters and being able to demonstrate motivation and willingness to learn new?skills will set you apart from the competition.
While technical skills and academic qualifications are still important, the top skills that employers are looking for?now include creative thinking, communication skills and emotional intelligence.
