Best foot forward
I’m excited to share with you the success of this year's Royal?Leamington Spa Regency 10K 2023, which took place on Sunday 2nd April.
1,587 runners?from all over the region put their?best foot forward?to complete the challenging course, and we were thrilled to see so many participants enjoying the event.
The Race Journey
Prior to the race each runner had their?race number, a?timing chip?and a?24 page brochure?(including vital information, a course map and messages from our supporters/sponsors) sent to their home. Between then and the race there were?training videos?available on social media. On completion of the race each participant was handed a?can of water, a?pre-sized technical T-shirt?and a?wooden medal. Since then their?post race photos,?press articles?and?reviews?have been made available on various media streams for them to savour their achievement. Well and truly, indeed?‘Royaly’ looked after, I would suggest!
In the 19 years that the event has been running the?30,500+ participants?have raised over?£440,000+ for local charities.?This year’s race will see proceeds donated to 30+ organisations, including the official race charity?Molly Ollys Wishes.
Since its inception in 2005, Leamington lawyers?Wright Hassall?have backed the event and?Leamington Round Table?organised it. Along with hundreds of other volunteers:?Spa Striders,?Leamington 41 Club, local cubs, scouts, sea cadets, businesses and others from across our community.
On a cold, overcast day, Leamington’s residents come out in force to cheer the runners on,?creating a party atmosphere, as they ran up and down the undulations of?Newbold Comyn, through town, around?Victoria Park?and?Jephson Gardens,?back to the finish in?Mill Gardens.
?In the men’s race,?Frazer Knowles?of Leamington Cycling and Athletics Club clinched top spot with a time of 32 minutes 40 seconds, followed in second and third by?Andy Lawrence?and Kenilworth Runners’?Ryan Baker.
Alice Belcher?of Wellingborough and District Athletic Club was crowned winner in the women’s category with a time of 36 minutes 5 seconds, ahead of?Natalie Bhangal?and?Monica Williamson, both of Leamington Cycling and Athletics Club, who rounded off the top three.
