When we think about the different ways to get more out of our day, we don’t often think about changing our diet. But people’s diets have changed recently with so many more people working from home.
And those changes probably are not mindful ones — especially if you’re grabbing more snacks because you’re working through lunch.
The truth is that if you’re not eating the right foods, you can feel sluggish, uninspired and apathetic. I rounded up the foods that can improve your productivity and mood. Whether you incorporate these into meals or snacks, these superfoods will work for you, not against you.
Put down the chips and try these yummy productivity boosters instead.
Blueberries
If there were such a thing as ultimate super fruit, it would be blueberries. They’re high in antioxidants, high in fiber and low on the glycemic index. Plus a study showed eating blueberries can help ward off degenerative diseases such as Alzhiemer’s disease. Which means there’s a good reason to indulge in blueberry pancakes for breakfast today!
Green Tea
Not only is this one of my favorite beverages but it has the science to back it up. In countries like China, people have been drinking green tea for thousands of years because it can help to reduce stress, lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Why not make yourself a green tea latte instead of your morning coffee?

Wild Salmon
Salmon is high in omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential brain food. If you find yourself regularly losing your keys or forgetting appointments try adding more fish to your diet as studies show omega-3 helps to boost your memory.
Dark Chocolate
Most people don’t eat chocolate for its health benefits, but a few pieces of dark chocolate a day can actually keep the doctor away! Dark chocolate has been shown to decrease stroke risk, raise your good cholesterol and improve your mood! This will give you a little nudge to be creative and get your work done.
Avocado
Having an avocado for breakfast is a great way to build the foundation for an energized day. Avocados help your blood circulation, which is key for optimal brain function. Avocado is also often used in skin masks as it has been shown to protect your skin from environmental damage.

Honey
Honey was used by the Egyptians and the Greeks as a main ingredient in their various healing recipes. Honey is also naturally antibacterial, which is why it can be used to fight illness. Eating a little bit of honey can help you sleep better so you’ll be more alert for work the next day.
Bananas
It’s well-known that bananas are an excellent source of potassium. Bananas also contain the daily amount of glucose required for your brain, as well as being an excellent source of energy. Studies show that eating a banana can give you as much energy as a sport drink, and give you a greater nutritional boost. So next time you feel yourself dragging during a Zoom call, grab a banana!
What foods make you motivated and get you going? I’d love to hear in the comments!
