Best Feature of Microsoft Azure

Niyama cloud services

The ability to “snooze” your servers and being able to buy just the compute you need RIGHT NOW - not 5 years from now.

“Snoozing” is what Microsoft calls it. The point is we only have to run the servers —and pay Microsoft Azure for computing—when we need the servers to run.

There are roughly (for easy round numbers) 750 hours a month.

If you only need to run a server during business hours, then you can cut the compute cost by 2/3rds!!! YOU HEARD ME RIGHT TWO-THIRDS.

Let’s say a server system costs $1/hour to run. If I ran it 24x7, I’d pay about $750/month.

Now let’s say I snooze the server outside business hours. Instead of needing 750 hours of computer, I just need 250. My tab went from $750/month to $250/month!!

Whoa! WE DO THIS ALL THE TIME IN OUR AZURE SOLUTIONS!!!

IT Pro’s are used to buy a server on this basis

It must last 5 years

I don’t want anyone upset with me for buying an underpowered server so I way over-spec the server with processors, memory and RAID storage.

It must run 24x7 and I don’t even consider when the server is really needed.

In Azure you buy the computer and storage you need RIGHT NOW - NOT 5 YEARS FROM NOW.

In Azure, we can choose to pay for computing ONLY WHEN WE NEED IT and not waste money running the servers when nobody is accessing them.
