1. Vogue
This list wouldn’t be complete without the publication that many consider to be the fashion bible. Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour has said, “’Vogue’ is the best of everything that fashion can offer, and I think we point the way. We are, you know, a glamorous girlfriend.”Stories cover fashion trends, profiles on style icons and trendsetters, as well as a weekly Best Dressed list. News from fashion weeks around the world keep readers informed on the latest collections.
Vogue also hosts the annual Met Gala, which is basically the fashion equivalent of the Oscars, so make sure to look out for this event coverage in May of each year.
2. Business of Fashion
Founded in 2007, Business of Fashion (“BoF”) aims “to fill the void for an informed, analytical and opinionated point of view on the fashion business.”
The site includes a mix of original and curated content, which makes for a very up-to-date site that’s constantly giving you the latest news in the fashion industry. Fashion design, investment, marketing, and commerce are all topics covered by BoF.
Business of Fashion also includes dedicated sections for industry job postings, online learning, and the BoF 500, which recognizes individuals making an impact in the fashion industry.
3. WWD
Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) is a weekly magazine that’s been around since 1910. WWD offers in-depth fashion week reviews, as well as the latest trends in women’s and men’s fashion, accessories, and beauty.
In an interview with Vanity Fair in 1986, WWD’s outspoken chairman John B. Fairchild said, “Sure we have gossip; we also have some very, very solid business stories. We are a creation of this business, which is fast, mean, tough, sometimes artistic, sometimes fun, sometimes horrible.”
The site also has a wonderfully useful Fashion Dictionary – perfect if you need to brush up on industry terminology.
4. POPSUGAR
POPSUGAR was founded in 2005 by Lisa Sugar and her husband Brian with a goal to present fun, friendly, pop culture content.
Now a global media and technology company, POPSUGAR’s mission, according to the site, is to “create media that powers the optimism and dreams of women around the world. We combine data, technology and storytelling to connect brands to this audience at scale.” POPSUGAR claims to reach one in three millennial women.
The fashion section of the site has a great mix of pop culture and fashion news and listicles with eye-catching headlines.
5. Who What Wear
Former Elle editors Katherine Power and Hillary Kerr started Who What Wear (WWW) in 2006 as a daily celebrity style e-newsletter. Since then, they’ve founded Clique Media and created a media empire that includes WWW, home décor site Domaine (www.domainehome.com), and beauty site Byrdie (www.byrdie.com).
Who What Wear’s goal, according to the site, is to be the “online destination for aspirational yet accessible fashion content that is elevated, serviceable, and 100% shoppable.”
The Shop section of the site has editors’ top picks with links to buy, making Who What Wear a one-stop shop. Look for trends and style tips broken down by office, vacation, street style, wedding, and more under the Looks tab.
6. GQ – Style
New York-based GQ, founded in 1957, is the premier men’s magazine for style and culture news and GQ Style is the publication’s quarterly.
Condé Nast owns GQ Style and describes it like this: “Highlighting the work of the world’s most prestigious fashion houses, while exploring design, art, travel, and beyond, it’s a magazine that celebrates the good life for the modern man.”
With dedicated sections for just about every type of clothing, as well as regular posts for the best dressed men of the week and interviews with trendsetters, GQ Style is a great place to get your fix for fashion news.
7. Glossy
Glossy (a branch of Digiday) is described as a “media brand exploring the intersection of fashion, retail, luxury and beauty through the lens of digital and technology.”
In the age of e-commerce and pop-up stores, the changes in the retail industry are a main focus for Glossy.
Glossy has millennial-friendly coverage of beauty and fashion news, and everything in between. Some of my favorite stories look at established retail brands and how they are adjusting in a digital world.
8. Nowfashion
Nowfashion, founded by Valerio Mezzanotti and Valerio Nappi, is a fashion photography magazine that publishes runway show photos in real time.
Readers are transported to the runway through Nowfashion’s 360° virtual reality videos. There also are countdowns at the top of the page for upcoming runway shows that the site will stream live.
