We will talk about…
Preparing for travel involves more than just packing your suitcase and planning your itinerary.
When it comes to traveling, I like to keep things simple and pack light with just a carry-on. The way that I can do that while still taking everything I need is by using essential oil cases shown in my video below.
Oils on the Go ?
One indispensable item that has revolutionized the way some travel with essential oils is the doTERRA Dram Keychain. This is a zippered pouch that contains 8-dram vials. It is perfect for if you want to take essential oils, but you don’t want to take full bottles of everything. You can put your favorite essential oils in the vials, place the vials in the keychain pouch, and boom you have your own mini kit that is perfect for travel. I recommend getting the doTERRA label stickers, so that you can label each vial. Throw this keychain in your purse and use it for everyday use as well as when you travel.
I like to take my original doTERRA bottles as shown below and i love using the essential oil case below. I can also take them in my hand luggage which is a big bonus.
Here are my top eight oils I packed in my Essential Oil case and took with me to Greece:
On Guard: Your Number One Travel Oil
On Guard is a powerful essential oil blend that offers immune support and protection against germs. There are several ways to use On Guard: I apply it to the bottoms of my feet, on my forehead , on my temples, i use it as a natural hand sanitizer, i add a drop to water for daily wellness, or create a homemade mouth rinse.
This autumn necessity offers a blend of Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Rosemary and more keep you one step ahead of the changing seasons.

doTERRA clove essential oil sourced from Madagascar
It takes approximately three years for a clove tree to mature for harvesting. Our Clove oil is produced from clove buds typically collected by small farmers. Harvesting, which is done by hand, is performed by both men and women. The oil we target comes from the clove buds, which are ready for harvest when they turn bright red, just before they blossom. Harvesting occurs during the fall of the year. After harvesting, the clove buds are left to dry in the sunshine, which helps produce higher quality oil and yields, thus more value for the small farmers. After drying, the clove buds are taken to the coastal town of Mananjary for distillation. Co-Impact Sourcing? by doTERRA helps health-conscious individuals find safe alternatives while also lifting entire communities and giving them hope for the future. As part of doTERRA's promise to provide pure, potent, consistent essential oils, Co-Impact Sourcing ensures that the doTERRA CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade? process starts at the source. Breathe Easy with Air/Breath Oil (doTERRA Air in UK and doTERRA Breath in US)
Air/Breath oil helps to open airways and promotes clear breathing. Whether you're exposed to pollution, or someone is feeling under the weather, Air oil can be applied to the chest, bottoms of the feet, or used in a portable diffuser. Speaking of which, doTERRA’s portable chargeable pilot diffuser is a great addition to your travel essentials. It's compact and perfect for diffusing oils in hotel rooms or even in your car.

Digest Zen/ Zen gest for Digestive Support
Digest Zen is an essential oil blend specifically designed to aid digestion and provide relief from digestive discomfort. When traveling, our digestive systems may be exposed to different foods and experiences. Adding a few drops of Digest Zen to your water can help ease digestion. You can also apply it directly to the abdomen or bottoms of the feet for both adults and children.
Tea Tree: The Medicinal Essential Oil
Tea Tree essential oil is a versatile oil to have in your travel pouch. It can be used to clean wounds, treat breakouts or blemishes, and even serve as a natural cleaner for surfaces, just add it to a little bit of water, or laundry. Its cleansing properties make it a handy oil to have on hand, especially in travel situations where you may need quick solutions.
Sourcing Spotlight for doTERRA Eucalyptus and Teatree essential oils
At doTERRA, Eucalyptus is more than just a soothing essential oil; it's a chance for change. Near the Oribi Gorge in South Africa, communities and individuals work together to establish the best harvesting practices to deliver a pure, potent eucalyptus oil. By encouraging social cohesion and sharing useful farming practices, local families and businesses can benefit from a fair income and get support. Listen to our sourcing partner explain how this partnership creates opportunity for others.
Lavender for Relaxation and First Aid
Lavender is often referred to as the "Swiss Army knife" of essential oils due to its versatility. It can be used for relaxation, promoting restful sleep, soothing skin irritations, and even aiding in healing cuts and scrapes. Applying a drop behind the ears can help alleviate discomfort during air travel due to changes in air pressure. Adding Lavender to your diffuser at night can create a calming atmosphere for better sleep.
Balance Essential Oil for Emotional Support
Traveling can sometimes be stressful, which is where Balance essential oil blend comes in. It provides emotional support and helps with anxious feelings. Its earthy aroma is grounding and soothing. Applying it behind the ears or on pulse points can help promote a sense of calmness and balance while on the go.

Copaiba for Discomfort
Discomfort relief is essential, especially during long trips or when dealing with muscle tension. Copaiba essential oil is known for its occasional discomfort-relieving properties. It can be applied directly to tight muscles or areas of discomfort or place a drop under your tongue – this works well for calming anxious feelings. Copaiba can also be used to support healthy skin. You can also use Deep Blue essential oil for occasional discomfort relief, but I find that Copaiba doesn’t have as much of an intense aroma, so I know I may need to use it on a plane or crowded space I will opt for Copaiba.
Power Up with Copaiba Softgels and Guaiacwood

I use copaiba softgels for:
Copaiba essential oil is derived from the resin of the copaiba tree which can grow upwards of more than 100 feet and can be found in tropical South America. doTERRA has partnered with locals in this region to source our Copaiba essential oil. This partnership wit doTERRA has created a sustainable and responsible way to source this exciting product and has the potential to create hundreds of new jobs. To learn more watch the video below.
Copaiba Soft gels are my Chill Pill! I love it!
The Advantages of Copaiba
At the 2019 Together Convention, doTERRA’s Director of Education and Training, Scott Johnson, said, “Copaiba and CBD work within the same biological system, so people naturally want to compare them, but it’s not really a fair comparison[…]Copaiba has benefits that can’t be achieved with CBD.” Because BCP directly binds to CB2 receptors, it produces rapid and powerful changes within the body. On the other hand, CBD doesn’t effectively bind to either receptor so it indirectly affects the ECS. In fact, despite having the unique ability to bind (indirectly) to both CB1 and CB2, CBD’s interaction is not nearly as intense as that offered by other compounds. Exemplifying doTERRA’s commitment to Pursue What’s Pure, Copaiba is a product born from that standard. Unlike CBD, essential oils rich in BCP, such as Copaiba, are easily tolerated compounds that offer countless benefits to the human body. At this year’s convention, Scott highlighted other possible targets and pathways for BCP outside the ECS such as the CD14 receptor, the μ-Opioid receptor, and the α7-nACHRs receptor.* These receptors affect pathways associated with healthy inflammatory response3, overall body comfort, and cognitive function.
Copaiba Soft gels are TOP on my list to have with me all the time. Copaiba is the cousin of CBD but Copaiba has more than 50% beta caryophyllene whereas CBD has only 2%, hence the powerful potency and benefits of Copaiba. CBD is in a carrier oil whereas Copaiba is the Neat, Pure, Certified Tested Grade Essential Oil.
In the video below, I dive deep into the benefits of Copaiba soft gels, sharing how they've become an indispensable part of my travel essentials. But it's not just about Copaiba; we're also exploring the often asked question: Copaiba vs. CBD. After a revealing visit to a CBD shop, I was left with more questions than answers. This spurred me to research and understand the real differences between these two powerful substances.
Importance of Beta-Caryophyllene
Beta-caryophyllene is a significant component of Copaiba essential oil and is crucial for several reasons:
1. Interaction with CB2 Receptors:
Unlike many other cannabinoids, beta-caryophyllene directly interacts with the CB2 receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system. This interaction is associated with reducing inflammation and pain without the psychoactive effects typical of THC, another cannabinoid.
2. Anti-Inflammatory and Analgesic Effects:
Its ability to bind with CB2 receptors makes beta-caryophyllene particularly effective in managing inflammation and pain, offering a natural alternative for those seeking relief without the side effects of conventional medications.
3. Potential Neuroprotective Properties:
Emerging research suggests that beta-caryophyllene may have neuroprotective properties, potentially benefiting neurological health and providing an area for future research.
Watch below video to learn more.
Comparison with CBD Essential Oil
Both Copaiba and CBD essential oils interact with the endocannabinoid system, but they do so in unique ways:
- Source and Composition:
Copaiba oil is derived from the copaiba tree resin, while CBD oil is extracted from the hemp plant. Copaiba contains a high concentration of beta-caryophyllene, whereas CBD oil includes a range of cannabinoids, primarily cannabidiol (CBD) itself.
CB1 and CB2 Receptors
Within the ECS, there are two primary receptors, cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) and cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2). The brain and spinal cord contain CB1 receptors, whereas CB2 receptors are predominately found in our immune system. Due to residing in different parts of the body, activation of these receptors can have very different effects. For instance CB2 activation supports healthy nervous and immune system function, while activating its counterpart (CB1) receptors can modulate mood, memory, or even perception of pain. While binding to the CB1 receptors positively influences many brain functions, research has shown that it may also have some unwanted psychoactive effects1. There are three groups of molecules that can greatly affect the function of the ECS: endocannabinoids (produced by the body), phytocannabinoids (produced by plants), and synthetic cannabinoids (produced in a lab). Phytocannabinoids are different because they are produced naturally by plants, such as Cannabis, Black Truffle, and Cacao, and found within essential oils such as Copaiba, Black Pepper, and Melissa. Literature suggests that these ECS-influencing substances tend to be selective in the receptors they activate2. This means they tend to activate either the CB1 or CB2 receptors, and they do so directly or indirectly depending on their chemical makeup. Furthermore, the stronger or more directly the molecule adheres to its receptor, the quicker it will produce a physiological effect. This is precisely why Copaiba is such a valued essential oil, it is high in a phytocannabinoid called beta-caryophyllene (BCP). Beta-caryophyllene has the ability to bind directly to CB2 receptors to affect the ECS.
- Legal Status:
Copaiba oil is generally legal worldwide as it is not derived from cannabis. CBD oil's legality, however, varies depending on regional laws concerning cannabis products.
- Primary Uses:
While both oils are used for managing pain and inflammation, CBD oil is often more associated with anxiety relief and neurological health, whereas Copaiba is particularly noted for its skin benefits and anti-inflammatory effects.
Copaiba is celebrated for its rich content of beta-caryophyllene, a powerful sesquiterpene that has garnered attention for its potential health benefits. doTERRA, a well-known name in the essential oils industry, the largest essential oil company in the world, ensures the oil's purity and efficacy, providing a product that is both potent and versatile.
Benefits of Copaiba Essential Oil
1. Anti-Inflammatory Properties:
Copaiba oil is renowned for its ability to reduce inflammation. It can be applied topically to soothe inflamed joints and muscles, making it a natural option for those suffering from arthritis or other inflammatory conditions.
2. Discomfort Relief:
The oil's analgesic properties make it a popular choice for natural discomfort management. Users often apply it to areas of discomfort for relief from chronic discomfort.
3. Skin Health:
Copaiba oil promotes healthy skin by reducing blemishes and supporting overall skin health. Its soothing properties make it suitable for sensitive skin and can aid in the treatment of conditions like acne.
4. Emotional Well-Being:
When used in aromatherapy, Copaiba oil can help reduce feelings of anxiety and stress, providing a sense of calm and relaxation.

The Limitations of CBD
Because CBD does not bind directly to receptors, you can expect slower cellular responses. Scott Johnson, AMP, CCMA, CEEOS, CPC said it best at convention describing CBD as a “helper molecule that signals the ECS to work more efficiently and modulate our responses to the molecules that do directly bind to our receptors.” Furthermore, as doTERRA’s in-house GCMS testing has shown, CBD—which is an isolate extracted from the cannabis plant—is often mixed with carrier oils, so absorption is limited and the effect is further decreased. In fact, a recent review of clinical data on CBD revealed internal usage may come with potential unwanted risks4.
In addition, according to a study published in 2017, 69% of CBD products were mislabeled and found to have higher levels of THC than are currently permitted by regulations5. This poses regulatory challenges and also increased risk for unwanted side effects. Not only can formulations of CBD contain some amount of THC6, but as previously mentioned, CBD is not an essential oil, it’s an isolate extracted from the cannabis plant. For doTERRA, the fact that it is nearly impossible for CBD to meet CPTG Certified Pure Tested Grade? standards for purity and potency is reason enough to keep it out of the product line.
Why Copaiba?
With its fast and direct bonding to CB2, beta-caryophyllene is a powerful constituent with potential to support well-being in a variety of ways. Try taking Copaiba orally to support a healthy inflammatory response7, apply topically to help reduce blemishes, or use aromatically to create a calm and relaxing environment.* As Scott Johnson says, “When used daily, Copaiba helps you live a longer and healthier life with greater periods of homeostasis.”

Diffuse On the Go
Even when I am only traveling with only a backpack, I always take a diffuser with me. The Pilot Diffuser is perfect for traveling, in fact it was made for that purpose. It is designed to be a car diffuser, so it is slim enough to fit into a cup holder.
I always turn it on right when I get to the hotel rooms to make sure everything smells fresh, and to get rid of any of the funk. I also put it next to my bed to help me sleep. I keep Air-X essential oil packed with my Pilot diffuser. Air-X smells like a breath of fresh air and is designed to remove pollutants from our air. I like to diffuse this right when I get into my hotel. I will also diffuse this with Lavender at night to help us sleep or if anyone in my family needs respiratory support I will diffuse it with Breathe/Air essential oil.
It comes with a carrying case that has spots to put your oils and the charger. I don't personally use the case when I am flying because it is bulky. I like to put my Pilot diffuser in a small soft pouch. The charger can be plugged into the USB port in your car or your computer.
This diffuser does not hold a lot of water, but it gets the job done. It can run for 4 hours continuously or 8 hours intermittently, but I don’t think I’ve been able to use it for a full 8 hours.
Purse Essentials for Travel
Beadlets
In addition to essential oils, I also carry beadlets for quick and easy use, including Metapower, On Guard, Peppermint, and Super Mint. These beadlets provide a convenient and portable solution for on-the-go support. The Peppermint Beadlets help me to wake up and freshen my breath. I also take the Peppermint Beadlets to give to my husband when he experiences motion sickness while traveling. The On Guard Beadlets are obviously for immune support; you can never have too much On Guard. The MetaPWR Beadlets help support healthy blood sugar levels. SuperMint also helps to freshen breath and tastes really good.
Rose Touch
When it comes to personal fragrance while traveling, one of my favorite choices is doTERRA's Rose Touch essential oil. I wear Rose oil every day and taking the Rose Touch with me when I travel just makes sense, its prediluted and small enough to travel with. Simply apply a swipe of Rose Touch to your pulse points, such as wrists or behind the ears, and let its floral scent envelop you throughout the day. Not only does it add a touch of luxury to your personal fragrance, but Rose oil also has numerous skincare benefits, helping to moisturize and rejuvenate your skin while on the go.
On Guard Hand Sanitizer
When it comes to staying clean and protected while traveling, one of my top recommendations is the On Guard Hand Sanitizer by doTERRA. I try to always keep on me, because you never know when you will need hand sanitizer. The compact size of the hand sanitizer makes it convenient to slip into your bag or pocket. You can spray this on more than just your hands too. It can be used to clean airplanes seats and trays or whatever you want really.
On Guard Wipes
These are great for on the go. You have probably heard that the little trays that fold down in front of you on airplanes are very rarely cleaned well. I use these wipes to quickly wipe down the tray and the armrests when I get to my seat. If you don’t have the On Guard Hand Wipes, just use the On Guard Hand Sanitizer.
On the Go Skincare
These are all my travel skin care essentials. For breakouts, I rely on the HD Clear product. I also use Yarrow Palm oil as a facial serum to keep my skin looking its best. And finally, I apply Clary Calm to my armpits every day to maintain healthy hormone levels. These are my go-to products for skincare, and they conveniently fit into my carry-on luggage. As someone who prefers traveling with just a carry-on, I've learned to streamline my packing and prioritize the essentials.
MetaPWR Collagen – a True Travel Essential
Ever since the release of the MetaPWR line, I always carry the Metapower Collagen. It helps with energy, supports healthy skin, brain function, and joint health.
Must have Travel Supplements
Another important aspect of my travel routine is supplements. I have a separate box where I keep my daily supplements. It's like my portable bathroom cabinet. I use this supplement box organizer to organizer all my supplements even when I am home and not traveling. This organized approach allows me to conveniently pack my daily supplement box into my backpack when I'm on the go.
Some of the supplements I take daily, while others are there just in case. In my supplement box I have the Lifelong Vitality supplements, On Guard+ capsules, GX Assist capsules for gut cleanse, On Guard plus capsules, probiotics, Metapower Assist, TerraZyme for digestion support, Serenity capsules for sleep assistance in case of jet lag, Mito2Max for energy, Zendocrine for liver support, and Deep Blue capsules, Copaiba capsules for discomfort relief. These supplements provide a comprehensive support system for my health while traveling. If you want to learn more about doTERRA’s supplements you can read my article: doTERRA Supplements Explained.

Your travel essentials may differ a little bit from mine, but if this is your first time traveling with essential oils or you want to get better about being more prepared the recommendations above are a good place to start. You will certainly want to take any oils or blends that you use daily. Any of the Touch oils would be good for traveling since they are pre-diluted, but you will not be able to diffuse these – which is why I also recommend the doTERRA Dram Keychain.
My last piece of travel advice would be to stay hydrated and eat well whenever you can. Remember to enjoy every moment of your trip. Embrace new experiences, interact with locals, try new activities, and create lasting memories. I hope you found this blog post helpful for creating your own travel kit with essential oils.
