Best of Empire Building: Write the Words + More Listening

Did you take my advice from yesterday and write your outline??You did? That's amazing! Well done!?(If not, try scheduling an hour on your calendar between now and the end of the year, and hold that hour sacred.) Today's tip is about how to make a lot of progress by making a little progress daily. Today's intro is to a few more of my favorite podcasts, this time for authors and writers!

??Tip: Make huge progress over time by making small, daily progress.?I could be a full-time author. I think I might even love having a full eight-hour day to write every single day. But I'd miss out on the fun of doing all of the other things on my calendar. Who wants to miss out on fun? Not this girl! I once had a client take a year's sabbatical and go to an entirely different country to write his book. He came home empty handed,?not even a single word written.

If you have a family, job, hobbies, and other interests chances are you can't run off to the South of France to spend a year writing your book. Me, either. So...

Here's how I'm going to write the seven books on my "to write" list for 2023:

  • Schedule daily writing time.?I write from 6-7 a.m. six or seven days a week (after yoga), utilizing (as I've mentioned) the Pomodoro Method (25 minute writing sprints + 5 minute breaks times two + coffee = about 500-1500 words per day)
  • Write six or seven days a week.?I write six or seven days a week. Consistently writing just 500 words per day will equal 3,000 or more words per week. In ten weeks, you'll have 30,000 words (that's a good-sized book). In seventeen weeks (four months), you'd have over 50,000 words, which is a solid nonfiction book.?Four months.?You can do this!
  • If you miss a day, don't miss two days.?Most of the year, I take Sundays off. When I take a day off or miss a day for any number of reasons, I do my best to not miss two days. If you miss a day, try not to miss two days. When you miss two days, don't miss three. If you miss a week, press the reset button and begin again. An entire month goes by because because because? All good, start again tomorrow.
  • Hack:?print out a yearly calendar and put a ? over the days you write and an ? on the days you don't. I've studied French on the Drops app for 333 consecutive days, today will be 334. After you get a certain number of ? on the calendar, you'll want to keep that streak going!

You can write your book in as little as fifteen minutes a day (I write about how, a dozen different ways,?in here).

??Introduction to my favorite podcasts for writers and authors.

These podcasts are informational, inspiring, and incredibly helpful in a myriad of ways. Happy listening!

Alright, next week is Thanksgiving (how did that happen?) and I've got some great deals coming your way. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and I'm extra excited and thankful this year. On my list is you, a reader of this newsletter. Thank you for reading, and I hope my intention of adding value to your life is happening.

Do you do anything awesome for Thanksgiving? We are so blessed to have amazing neighbors, with whom we now share Thanksgiving. Byron got three turkeys and nine gallons of peanut oil to make the best fried turkey on planet Earth. And this year, Mrs. Clause (his mom) and her husband will permanently be with us, for which we are extra thankful.

Have a great weekend! I'll have a recap in your inbox tomorrow and I'll be back with fresh words next Monday!
