The BEST email from a RECRUITER I ever received.
Everyone knows "sell a solution, not a product" but this concept is not applied in recruiting.
Which is why most emails from recruiters look like this:
"I represent a candidate who has skills x, z and z. He is coming out from a major financial company. Has 5 years of experience".
These emails should look like this:
"I have a candidate who works at a company like yours. In 3 last month's he improved performance of their site by 50 percent. He looked at your site and he thinks he can improve your performance by even greater percentage. He also developed a number of applications for them that really moved the dial. He happens to have the skills you are looking for - I checked your past job adverts. He is a black belt in all of those".
The difference between the two emails is that the first one sells a "product" with "features" - skills.
The second one sells a solution to common problems.
We live in a talent based society where results and solutions matter most.
Or take this email:
"We are a recruiting agency. We work with companies x, y, z. Really would like to work with you. Can we meet for coffee this Wednesday ?"
There are lots of agencies who work with lots of companies. Which is why your "product" with its features (companies your work with), in this case your agency, does not stand out.
How about this email instead:
"Our agency placed 6 candidates into a company similar to yours, and as a result sales went up by 40 percent. We had similar results with other clients. That's because we have a unique approach to sourcing top sales talent. Would you like to hear what we can do for you? "
This solution based selling also applies to sourcing.
Cold calls from recruiters sound like this.
"I have 2 companies who are looking for skills x,y,z. Are you interested ?"
How about this instead.
"I may have an ideal job for you. Imagine your perfect job, what would it be ?"
Listen for the explanation.
After the explanation -" So you would agree that you are not in your ideal job right now ? Like I said, I have a couple of openings that look like your perfect job."
Again, you are solving a problem, the fact that the person is not in her ideal job. Many people think they are not in their ideal job, so such a sell is easy.
Please drop a name of a solution based agency or a recruiter in comments.
