Was this the best Dreamforce ever?

Was this the best Dreamforce ever?

There is a tradition in the tech industry. I don't know if Steve Jobs started it, but he was very good at it: Whenever he introduced a new product it was the best product that was ever made. The new one was always faster, lighter, thinner, and better than the last one.

So how does this Dreamforce compare to the other ones? To be honest, I don't know. I did not go to this one in 2022. I was there for 2021, which was a small party more than a large tech conference due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Somebody summed up the experience for the 2021 Dreamforce very well: We were a selected audience who got invited to support the live broadcast, and we were happy to be there.

As I am looking to get a more balanced news feed on LinkedIn soon, I wanted to summarize what I thought was the most important news coming out of Dreamforce. We all followed the news, but there was quite a bit of social noise around the event. Here are my comments:

1?? Salesforce ecosystem is alive and well: The excitement around the event and the strong social engagement reaffirm to us that Salesforce Ohana is one of the best ecosystems in tech.

2?? Salesforce Genie is announced: Salesforce says this is the most important announcement ever (RIP Steve Jobs). I will have to take their word for it until I see it in detail in a demo or in a success story for a client. At this point, I don't know whether it will stick around like Einstein CRM or vanish like Einstein voice. Here is more information on Genie.

3?? Flow all the things: You know I am biased, but I remember the days when flow was hidden under Einstein automation in the release notes. Flow was all over Dreamforce keynotes, and the message clearly was: Use flow in Marketing Cloud, use flow in Commerce Cloud, Tableau, Mulesoft, and Slack; pretty much everywhere. In the middle of the Genie announcement Flow Orchestrator was shared on the big screen. New functionality like the ability to call a screen flow in a lightning Web Component is exciting.

I will share the remaining new Winter 23 items in the next issues of this newsletter.

4?? DevOps Center is in released beta: In a world where most Salesforce Orgs use change sets to deploy stuff from Sandboxes, this is a pretty big deal.

Read more on the DevOps Center here. Better yet install it in a Dev Org.

5?? Slack is getting a few new tools: The platform will soon support multiple people in a video huddle sharing their webcams and screens. Quip is getting integrated into Slack, and this functionality will be called Canvas when it is available in 2023. Screen flow functionality in Slack is making progress.

6?? China

Mike Tyson once said: "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." In a world where many organizations are downscaling their operations for China, Salesforce announced a new Alibaba partnership. When the growth slows down the big international markets of the world look more and more appealing.

Read more on the Alibaba - China announcement here.

7?? WhatsApp Partnership

The winds of change also affected the Benioff Zuck relationship positively I guess. Salesforce announced that it is partnering with WhatsApp. This is a bigger deal than most people in the USA will realize. Most of the small businesses in the rest of the world run on WhatsApp.

8?? Salesforce+ finds its footing

I found the Salesforce+ broadcast useful. There were many complaints. Yes, the broadcasts were not live, and that kind of sucked. However, the live coverage did not feel like an afterthought, and everything worked well from a technical standpoint. I am looking forward to seeing more sessions to be released on the platform soon.

There are a bunch of other news that didn't make my list but are nevertheless quite important like the new Net Zero Marketplace. Read more on the Net Zero Marketplace below.

Enjoy

I love Salesforce's company culture connecting dozens and attracting millions. They are building their strategic plan based on that. Therefore I think the 2022 Conference is/was just part of their strategic plan. Because ''New Study Finds Salesforce Economy Will Create 9.3 Million Jobs and $1.6 Trillion in New Business Revenues by 2026.'' (Salesforce Newsroom, 2021). Thus, they told their audience that if we grow, we will do it together as #trailblazers. That's why I do believe that this was just the beginning. Hoping great things will come in the upcoming years. ??
