Why Spain? The Appeal for Expats
Spain’s allure for expats clearly goes beyond its breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture. The survey focuses on crucial factors such as quality of life, ease of settling in, ease of working, and cost of living.
However, there are many more important reasons why Spain is attracting more and more foreign buyers and investors. I will go more in details about the most relevant factors over the next days.
Today the key point is that Spain offers three main advantages to people who are looking to move, buy a new home, or invest.
1. Ease of Relocation: Overcoming Common Hurdles
Leaving one's home country and getting used to a new lifestyle can be difficult. Spain offers a smooth transition, and as someone who has experienced this firsthand and has changed country already three times, I can attest to the ease of settling in.
If you're considering Spain, rest assured that the process is less complicated than you might think, providing that you work with someone knowledgeable, who can accompany you through the whole path. 2. Robust Real Estate Market: Gain Equity Fast
Any property purchase is not just a home, it's an investment. Spain boasts a very interesting and strong real estate market, showing consistent growth over 37 consecutive quarters. Even in the face of economic shifts, or in the current situation of increasing mortgage rates, the Spanish property market remains solid, offering excellent opportunities.
If you buy a property off-plan in a new development, by the time the construction is completed, your equity has already significantly increased. Additionally, forecasts tell us that prices will keep growing, which will ensure that your new home keeps gaining value.
And finally, the demand for recently built properties is very strong, higher than the offer, and this too would ensure you a very interesting ROI if you decide to resell your home.
Properties in historical city centres are also very interesting. A house with historical features is a piece of the heritage of the city, and as such its value will keep growing over time.

3. Lucrative Rental Market: Turn Your Property Into Passive Income
Your property in Spain isn't just a place to live, it's a potential source of passive income. Spain's thriving rental market allows you to earn while you're away. From covering mortgage costs to providing extra income, renting out your property in Spain can significantly improve your financial situation.
There are different ways you can earn by renting out your property. They work differently depending on to the location but they are definitely worth exploring if you are not planning to use your property all the time.

Exploring Other Top Cities: A Snapshot Beyond Spain
While Spain dominates the top 10 with 4 cities, let’s have a look at the other attractive cities for expats.
Number 4 and 5 are in the United Arab Emirates, Ras Al-Khaimah and Abu Dhabi respectively. Number 7 is Mexico City that attracts a lot of Americans due to the lower cost of living and better healthcare compared to the US. Number 8 is Kuala Lumpur, Number 9 Bangkok, and number 10 Muscat (Oman).
Lisbon is the first European non-Spanish city in the ranking, at number 12, with Barcelona closely following at 13.
Paris is number 41, London 42 and Berlin 45.
Italian cities such as Rome and Milan are the last two in the 49 city ranking, so please stop asking me “how could you live the country where we all want to live??”. Now you know... From Milan to Barcelona I gained 36 places in the ranking! But I have my eyes on Malaga now... :)
