Best Career Advice: Who Believes in YOU?

Like seriously fam.
Do the social and professional circles you hang out with fan your career aspirations or are they draining the life out of your dreams? Are your buddies traveling towards their magnificent or dining with mediocrity?
What about the conversations you are having about your career. Wait, do you even have such? 90% of the time I connect with potential career coaching clients, the one common thing they share is; ‘I have never shared this with anyone before. And now that I do, I feel so much lighter.
It’s a different type of light though. One that empowers them to start acting differently, as their mindsets on their career situation have shifted. This is unlike most chit-chats we have about our jobs, employers, work and career challenges that are often filled with whining and no commitments come out of them.
I invite you to pause and reflect on the career conversations you engage in. How often do they leave you feeling empowered to move boldly and step into your greatness? Or does every encounter leave you feeling more hopeless and uncertain?
We spend so much time and energy holding onto connections that are misaligned with our career ambitions, dreams, and life vision. On top of everything else wrong with this mad world, I find this exhausting.
In one chapter of my upcoming book (Which is now being shred apart by my 2nd editor who is also a good friend and client), I deeply explore this idea of building powerful and meaningful connections to fuel and catalyze our dreams. And what it takes to attract and belong to spaces. Inspired by Rumi, this chapter provokes us to seek those who fan our flames. To take ourselves to spaces where our voice can be of service. Our uniqueness is welcomed, and our presence is acknowledged. Spaces where we feel safe to be, to express ourselves, and to show up powerfully.
I shared my vision of my book with one of my mentors two weeks ago and she immediately proclaimed ‘'This book should be on the reading list of every university in the world!’’ Now that is someone who believes in my vision! Perhaps even sees it more clearly than I do.
I won’t even get started on how my development editor (also friend and lifetime workmate) is taking this whole masterpiece more seriously than I sometimes think I am.
This is the power of being surrounded by powerful and extraordinary people. First, your days of excuses are over. Second, you are constantly reminded of your greatness, when you forget it and when you sometimes refuse to step into it.
In this chapter, I also explore how we sometimes get caught up in the comfort zone of our circles, and how we end up hiding our career struggles, our pains, our frustrations, our unmet aspirations, and so on. The impact of this on our overall career well-being, and how to cut ourselves loose from such chains so we can fearlessly pursue our true and highest desires.
My challenge to you this week. As one of my coaches asked me a couple of months ago, I ask you ‘‘What connections and circles bore you to death and you know you need to let them go, so you can create something new in your career life?’’
I hated this question. But that’s the whole idea behind truths that transform us, first, they must piss us off.
Over to you!
